Poker players should play in NO RAKE games...AS MUCH AS ****ING POSSIBLE!!!

You all should play in NO RAKE games at people's residences. Paying rake all the time at casinos is completely idiotic. Poker can be played anywhere. Paying ten of thousands of dollars per year in rake is moronic.

I play in multilple home games, two at lux condos, one at a nice residence with a sweet poker table in the basement. One is a 20-40 mix, other two games are 5/10 NLH/PLO...and we play with zero fin rake. Collectively, it saves all us hundreds of thousands of dollars a year in rake.

You should play in home games with no fin rake in your cities. That is all.

Some of us live on our own private islands and have no places to play. I’d have to take my yacht to the nearest port then deal with the harbor master and all that nonsense. It’s not worth it.

If you want to play a game without having to worry about getting invited, or getting paid, you have to pay for the privilege.

Games among friends should be rake free of course. BYOB and bring some food. This type of game sometimes rotates to other homes.

If you are providing a dealer and increased security then yes a rake is a must. You are paying for the extras. A good tip at the end of the night helps also if you win.

Rake pays for the extras.

I’m a stickler for rules so I would advise against any rake to avoid jail time.

Good for you. Stay at those home games. I don’t want you bringing your constant negative energy about the casino rake to the casino poker rooms.

Nope. I don’t listen to OMCs who still live with their 90 year old mother complaining about rake at the casinos. I bet you’re the type that tips a dealer only a $1 on $1000 + pots because tipping more would hurt your bottom line. Keep doing you, Rake Nit.

Please don't turn this into yet another tipping poo flinging. Rake poo flinging is bad enough.

Avoid playing at casinos as much as possible. No rake games outside of casinos is where it's at yall.

Can you please come host some of these games in Antwerp?
We require free drinks and food too, preferably a buffet or at least 3 different options.

No rake means you play with your friends, as others have explained.

If you want people in your game who have a lot of money to lose, you need two things:

- Make it comfortable, attractive, be a great host, provide a secure and well ran game.
- A high turnover of losers. People usually can't lose forever. This means you need to attract more players on the regular.

And I am not even talking about the casino. Casino is terrible as far as I am concerned. I have a limited experience there, but always found it very uncomfortable to play at. There are too many rules, too much rigidity, and I think this eliminates some casual players from the pool.

In good private games, you'll have, nice tables and chairs, a team of three experienced dealers for two tables, drivers, hostesses, food, drinks, cigarettes, joints, massage girls etc... All "for free". Not only does it make the game super comfortable for you, it also brings people who are gamblers more than poker players who appreciate the treatment.

If these games where not raked and nobody paid for anything, we would be playing on someone's kitchen table, sitting on plastic chairs and playing with matches. Between us friends. Not really attractive.

As long as it's profitable for both parties in the end, it does not matter that the house makes its own profit "on your back", you benefited from a service that made it possible. If it's not profitable, it's on you.

Hello -

There used to be a poker home game website but it currently has tons of error messages. I would like to start a non-raked home poker game in the southeast. Preferably SC or FL. Please reply if you are interested.

I've never played in raked home game, but have been invited...however, I live in LA which has (at least pre-pandemic) many, many home games.

Some have a rake to cover food/beverage/room...that's not really a rake.

Some have no rake, but tips are "suggested" and at the end of the evening winners are expected to tip out 10%...if they want to be invited back. The organizer/dealer of this game, who works for the home owner, probably makes 100K annually on a 5/10, 500 buyin game that runs once a week.

I only like playing in non-raked home games. Raked games, at least the ones I've heard of in LA, attract sharks and scammers. You know, the people who can't get invited to a non-raked home game!

If any contributions for food, beverage, or room are made by the players, that constitutes a rake and is illegal. Even if players are encouraged to bring food to share or whatever, technically illegal.

To host legally, you literally have to be providing everything to everyone with no expectation of reimbursement of any sort. It kinda sucks.

I used to deal in lots of no rake underground/home games in the late 90s/early 2000s. We'd just snatch as much from the pot that we could get away with. The fish had no idea, and everyone else knew it was the cost of doing business.

Get arrested a few times, and ,maybe look down the business end of an AR15 as you get robbed, and toss in a 'my good friend was shot dead when the game was robbed.

Once you've done those things, come back and tell us all about how bad playing in a casino is.

I heard the municipal workers game is rake free. Beware if you get caught cheating like worm did in rounders you will get the bash.
I used to play a .50/$1 PLO game with a $5 dealer payment per hour. the dealer was a actual kid and he probably made $200 on a friday night. that kid made more money than anyone in the game per hour.

"I want something for free!"

Nah. Did you chip in for the table? For the cards? For the seating? For the electricity, food, etc.? Did you help organize the game with text messages and scheduling? Are you just mooching off your friends? Do you also hitchhike?
