25 players approx, 20K starting chips, 1 hour levels until the final table of 10, then down to 45 minutes.

Blinds are as follows (no antes)

In your experienced estimation, how long will this game take to finish?

You have half a million chips in play. After 13 rounds the big blind is only 6,000.

Answer: A long, long time.

A very long time. You have 500,000 chips in play. In general, it won't end until the big blind is in the neighborhood of 25,000 or 50,000.

Of course it depends on your players and their skill level.

I would say that tournament might take in the region of 15-18 hours?

If you want a single evening then I would start with 10k chips, make half hour levels and add in a 4k/8k level. That will probably take around 7 hours.

Also, put an ante in later on too; will make for a much more fun tournament in my opinion.

I'm not hosting the game, I'm trying to convince the host it is a bad idea.

He thinks it will take 6-7 hrs... I think he's whacked...

Tell the host it could take up to double of what he thinks it will take now....
5k stacks IMO, or 15 mins every blind

I run 30 player tournies with 20k stacks that take 5 - 5.5 hours. Great value and time for the buyin which isn't too high:

Take the total amount of chips in play and multiply by .05. When the BB gets to that amount, the tournament will end...give or take one blind level. At that point, in a heads up match, each player will have an average of 10 BB each. You know it doesn't last long after that.

That will take 7.25 hours at a minimum to get to JUST THAT level, unless the game is filled with the most crack-addicted maniacs that there have ever been.

When I plan tourneys of around 25, I start with FIVE thousand in chips and TWENTY minute levels... and that blind structure. My tourneys last around 4 to 4 1/2 hours. See if your crackhost can do the math....

I didn't stick around to the end, but I don't think there were any deals made, or what the final blinds were, but they did go down to 45 min levels once they had a final table.
