I like them for the retro aesthetic style they have. Closest thing you can get to this: http://images1.wikia.nocookie.net/__...ip-Vault21.png

The weight is nice. They only problem I have with my tournament set, is that the blacks and purples blend somewhat in low lighting, hard to distinguish.
Chips colors which don't contrast well in low light are the worst. I play in an occasional tournament where the blacks and purples after very close. The worst.

"Nice" weight is in the eye of the beholder. I stand by my earlier assessment:

There are thousands of chips of this design and manufacture, differentiated only by the sticker in the middle. I like the stickers on these more than some. More than, say, the ones with the dog photos, or the ones with president's faces.

But if you like them, go for it. It's all about what you like. But unless you've bought samples of several chips, it is hard for you to know what you like.

Roger that. But its always nice to rake in a pot with an extra 500 in the middle, because a novice player didn't notice. lol

But the low denoms are good for low stake cash games, the .25c (brown), $1 (grey), $5 (red) chips don't blend.

The usual host of my Tuesday night group has a set of ebay sluggos like these but in tourney denoms of 25-5000:

It was a long battle but I finally trained him to leave the dark blue 50s in the case and use 25/100/500/1000 for starting stacks. In dim lighting, the 50 and 100 chips are nearly indistinguishable. Dirty stacks and "hey, I found a 50" after colorup were the norm.

However, we increased our starting stack at the beginning of the year, and since then, he has insisted on using the 50s again. I complain every week and he just laughs - I sometimes wonder if he's doing it intentionally just to tilt me. If he weren't a friend, I would pop a cap in his ass.

I feel dat homie. Why they even make 50s? I don't know. Definitely shouldn't use them if you have 25s.

I wish a could find a photo of this set. He has no 25s, so we start at 50/50. And the black 100s and dark purple 500s are so close in hue. A terrible design decision.

I hope he doesn't read this and figure out who I am, because he is a very dependable host. On the other hand, I hope he does see this and get new chips! I only play this game occasionally, so I am not willing to hand out advice.

While I'm in the mood, he has un-padded table toppers like this:

No one uses the racks. They just get in the way. With no padding, it would be better to play with no topper at all.

50c chips are good for blackjack, and nothing else.

EDIT: Okay, and also for $1/2 or $1.50/$3 FL games.

What about when you play Seven Card Stud? Fixed Limit 2/4 with a .50c ante????????

you can have the button ante for the table. Round up to increments of $1if it's not an even number. everyone still pays the same amount in antes.

They're not essential, but I recommend having some if you plan on owning a cash game set.

FINE. Yeah, I prefer ante chips if you have 'em. Button antes and the like get annoying and confusing to track in mixed games. Tho' 25c is arguably a better ante for a full table of stud, anyway. You can always turn quarters into 50c, but not the other way around.

Changed my mind on the Milanos. There is a group buy under way at Chiptalk for semi-custom WSOP tribute chips. They are going to be available for 0.15 each (labelled) or 0.13 each for the blanks.

Nice looking chips with a brand new mold design called the Tower and Spear. Nice to have the option to order the blanks for custom labels later on.

If your setup supports them, I find individual antes to provide a great deal more flavor and a lot less explanation. Button antes are a fine solution if you don't have the right chips to make it happen (or just like avoiding the "Hey! Who's short?!?" problem antes can sometimes cause).

For games that require a 50c chip, I have almost always used 50c pieces.

Your bank has a few, and any coin dealer will sell you common 50c pieces for almost face value. [Less than the gas and time of the phone call to find the guy...]

They make great chips at a table who uses them only for blinds and/or antes, and not any betting quantity.

So you are basically paying 50 cents each for metal slugged chips?!

They're not slugged, they're a composite sandwich of nickle-copper plated copper, damnit!

Just fancy words. And they are probably not true casino chip weight, either.

Hey Ladies & Fellas,

Searched, didn't want to bother you people with opening a new thread, sorry for the bump.

Thinking of getting a 1000 chipset for home game cash. These will have no denoms. I need help on the break down for 6-9 player game and 100bb buyin. I would like to come up with a combo that allows the playing of .25/.50, .50/1.00, $1/$2, $2/5 & maybe as low as .10/.25. The set will include Whites, Reds, Greens & Blacks (all non denom). My thoughts are as follows:

- 100 Black
- 300 Green
- 400 Red
- 200 White

450 Red & 150 White maybe? 150 White & 350 green?

Im thinking the lower stakes games I can combine colors for one denom... say, .25 and play a .25/.25 & .25/.50 games with Green/Red)

Any help would be greatly appreciated

100 black = double duty as $100 or $0.10 for smaller games
200 green = double duty as $25 or $0.25 for smaller games
400 red = $5
300 white = $1

when you're running the smaller games like .1/.25 you still have enough reds and whites for there to be over $2.3k on the table without using the greens and blacks as large denom

FWIW I have been happy with my Milano set that has 200 - $0.25/ 200- $1/400 - $5/100 - $25/ 100-$100

Thank you kindly Deal!!!

Exactly the feedback I was looking for and I appreciate your time.

I ended up doing precisely what you said & went with 100Black, 200Green, 300White & 400Red. I also found a 1000 chipp case for $28 to bring my grand total to $98 . I know, cheap. I think it is a nice set tho for the minimal amount of time it will be seeing use. Plus, its a set that isnt familiar so as to reduce the likelyhood of any shananigans in the "higher stakes" games I host/bring them to.

Ill post pics when I get them if I can figure out how to do that

Thank you again fine sir
