I thought they felt very similar to my Copag's in texture, maybe a bit thinner (but admittedly I don't have as broad a knowledge base as some ITT). I bought a set-up a few months ago, they get used probably one session every other week (so probably used 7 or 8 times, maybe 40 hours). There are chip indents in several of the cards already. Compare that to my Copag's, which I've had for 2+ years; I haven't seen any indents in 6 decks...

Thanks for joining the conversation. Do you still have uncut sheets available? If so, how much are they?

Hmm, that's not very encouraging. Our Modianos have seen pretty heavy use this year (I take 'em to other games sometimes, not just my own). Haven't noticed any indents. The DaVincis appeared very similar, so somewhat surprises me...to the point where I'm going to give my Mods a closer look when I get home this evening...

Da Vinci's are, iirc, Modiano's "economy" line of cards. Not as high a styandard as Mods . . . at least, from what I have seen and heard. Never owned a set-up myself

Sorted through and suited my decks (Kems & Modianos) last night. First time in a while I'd taken a really close look at some of these. I think I have to slightly refine my opinion of the Modianos. They do indeed hold shape well, don't warp like the Kems. I also had no problems with paint blemishes when new (I've had this problem with Kems). But, they don't seem to hold up that well from usage; I had to discard three cards for a rip, a permanent crease, and a missing corner (little chunk of card missing, lol).

They're still pretty good cards, and we've used them a lot, I can't complain. But I may not buy more of them in the future...leaning back toward Kems for my next procurement of setups.

note, these are the Modiano Club Poker line, not the platinum acetates.

afterthought: I don't have a pokertable, but I do have a piece of speedcloth which I use as a table covering. I've taken Modianos to other games in the neighborhood, however, where they're just playing on the regular dining room table (wooden). I noticed that all three of the damaged cards were from those setups - probably a significant factor.

Before you give up on the Modianos, try the Acetates. If you do not like them, I'll take them odff your hands . . .

I've used Modiano Poker Clubs for a while, and I've never had breaking or chipping problems. I suspect that any plastic cards will be more easily damaged when used on a hard surface like a wooden kitchen table.

Are people still after Zero cards?

I live in the UK and I've contacted Zero for information about minumum purchase orders and single deck prices.

If I'm able to get them I'll let you all know.

Just ordered a couple set-ups of Cellulose Acetate Carta Mundis. Cellulose Acetate is what original Kems were made of . . . will post a review when they are in hand.

I'm really curious about those Carta Mundis. A review would be much appreciated as they will be going on sale later this month. I totally need some more cards.

On a whim (and because Caragails had them on sale), I bought a setup of JI bridge Cartamundis a while back. They're decent cards; good thickness & print quality, a little slick.

I've never used them because I'm just not a fan of bridge size.

That is "on a whim."

"Oh, look, there is a ____. I don't like ___. I'll take it!"

I noticed the same, thought it was funny.

I think pretty much every public room in which I've played (WA State and SoCal) uses the bridge size, just kinda grooved into me a permanent preference for the narrower card.

Hey Schmend, if you're not gonna use 'em, send 'em our way.

I was trying to be open-minded and give bridge size cards a shot. I played around with them a bit, but that just reinforced my preference for poker size, so I never used them in an actual game.

I also prefer the poker size so I'm kind of on the fence. I do have setups that are still in the shrink wrap so maybe I need to slow down a little.

The OCD collector in my blood likes to remind me that I do not own any Carta Mundis so I may break down anyways.

If you've got an FPO address we can talk. Otherwise, shipping to Bahrain would probably cost about twice the value of the cards.

Bridge-sized cards probably get lost in your gorilla-sized paws

Sorry, didn't mean to rain on your parade. But it did sound pretty stupid: Hey, I hate bridge size cards... I should buy some! So I thought some explanation might help me save a little face. Yeah, I know, fat chance.

We have a once a week two table Club. After about a year our cards get sticky and don't deal well. One of our players says to put them in a plastic bag with some talcum powder and shake the bag.

Another says to wash them in a sink with dish soap and luke warm water.

Another says to just wipe with a damp cloth.

Any of you actually cleaned the cards? What result?

We have different brands Modiano, Copaq, and Kem mostly.
Lately we're into Kem-Jumbo Index- Bridge Size. We have less misdeals with the bridge size.

We tried four color for awhile with mixed results, Like previous posts stated, the colors are not brilliant enough in the Blue and Greens.

My stock answer is that I just run them through the washing machine on an extra small, delicate setting.

The truth is a lot simpler and less damaging. But it will take more effort.

Room temperature water in a bowl with a small amount of MILD dish soap, barely enough to raise suds.

Soak a few (5) cards, place them on a towel, rub with a clean, slightly rough face cloth. Put back in original bowl. Once you have done all five, place them in your "rinse" bowl. Rinse bowl should be the same temp, but no soap. Move them around to make sure soap residue is gone.

Place cleaned cards on a clean bath towel, and cover with another one.

Repeat for entire deck, changing water in both bowls as needed.

When the entire deck is on the drying towel, pat down gently on the cover towel to soak up excess moisture. You can dry the cards individually with paper towel if you like, but do not be in a rush to restack your clean cards. Let them dry overnight, and they'll be fine.

Or you could be anal like me. I work for a chemical company so, when I clean my decks, I bring them into work. We have dessicant in our lab, so I leave my cleaned deck in a sealed beaker with dessicant for the day, to remove ALL the moisture. No need for talc, which just puts more gunk on your clean cards.
