I figured as much. If you like thick cards they don't get any thicker or stiffer than those.

You know, if you remove the word "cards" that entire post sounds sooooo dirty.

Yup, they are nice. I have yet to read any really negative reviews for them.

(And if you like the look of those, the Desjgn and Fournier WSOP breakout cards are nice, too...)

I love Modiano cards, and until Desjgn came out with the Classic Victorians, Modiano Poker Club was my card of choice.

The only negative(?) is that you will develop forearms like Popeye after a night of shuffling these things.

Maybe I am a 90 lb weakling, but my fingers got really fatigued shuffling these cards. Maybe I shuffle too much.

Got some cartamundi acetates in the mail... Great deal from spinetteis, but my first impression is that they feel miniature.. Not real... They only came in bridge sized.

The second impression is they feel very smooth and plasticky...not super impressed. However they were not super expensive. Not horrible cards, just not my thing.

I went back to dealing a few hands with the Modiano's, and the world was right again!

I had a setup of the Cartamundis, and I felt that the quality was okay (a little slippery but not terrible). But I just don't like bridge size cards in my home games.

It's weird, because I play with them all the time in casinos and have no issues. But at home, they just feel too small.

Carta Mundis are a decent value card . . . I rank them ahead of Copags (no colour bleed) but behind the Desjgns.

I prefer bridge size as well, especially for Omaha. But we mostly play with "poker" size. Funny they call them that, because outside of home games, you rarely see them on a poker table.

Poker size rules at our home games, as well. I've tried bridge size at a few games, and there were usually comments about the "small" cards.

I'm in the "I prefer bridge size" camp. Given I prefer games where you have more than two cards, it just makes them easier to handle. I find them easier to shuffle as well.

The Desjgn CV's are excellent cards. The closest comparison I can think of is that they are like a Copag, but are more textured (not as slippery). They are more flexible than the Modiano's, but everything feels flexible compared to the Mods.

I vote for changing the name "poker size" to "blackjack size". "bridge size" could become "normal cards".

afaik, the vast majority of casinos use the narrower cards at poker tables.

Update.

Opened up a deck of "party poker" cards, discovered these are Fournier plastics, with hilarious funny face cards.. Had received these as a gift a while back. Liked them, good reviews, so I snagged a couple more decks.

Picked up a setup of the fournier Congress plastics (bridge size only), and the cartamundi acetates, also bridge sized.

Initial thoughts.

I hosted a game last night, and due to the smaller table I was using, I opted for the bridge sized cards to start. Played the cartamundis, and althought they felt ok... After a while, I couldn't stand the smallness if them (large hands), so we tried the fournier party poker cards.. These were ok, but didn't feel quite as nice to me as some of my other cards.. I switched back to the Modiano's, and the entire table was happy with the decision. The consensus was these had an amazing feel, noticeably much better than the other cards... This from a table of relatively un decerning folks regarding playing cards.

OK, need advice...

Friend asked me to help him deal tonight. He owns a casino party business. The game is NLHE, and he already confirmed he is using dice chips and paper cards.

The thought of shuffling paper cards for 3 hours straight? OMFG

My buddy agreed to let me provide the card setup for my table. His requirements, poker size and larger index (old fogies have poor eyesight). My two options as I see it:

Gemaco Superflex
Copag

Neither are my fav cards, but the Modiano PA's are too stiff for me to want to shuffle them for three hours. The Gemaco's are my next favorite cards, that are less stiff than the PA's, and that was my go-to thought... However, I've never dealt them straight for 3 hours. Will I want the flimsier (albeit slipperier) Copags? Thoughts?

The Desjgn Classic Victorians are exactly what you are looking for. As mentioned several times in this thread, they are the favorite cards of many posters here. Great feel, just the right weight. If you haven't tried them, you really should.

You said for tonight?? I might be too late, but in a pinch try Rite Aid..they have some ACE brand ($5) that will do for a night, or try walgreens or wal mart and you can find the bicycle prestige ($9 -$10). Although these decks are not the best out there, they are a great cheaper alternative , and still 100 times better than paper. Good luck.

I'm with eneely on the Desjgn Classic Victorians for the long term. They're good-looking, unique cards with a nice texture, thin and flexible enough for easy shuffling without being flimsy.

I believe Bicycle Prestige are the only brand you'll find at common retail locations like Walgreens. I've used them a couple times myself, but I ordered mine online. They're not quite as easy on the hands as Desjgns or Copags, but they're not quite as thick as Modianos either. They're a good transitional card for people who prefer paper. Definitely not a bad choice in a pinch, and better than some of USPC's other offerings.

I have a number of setups to choose from, including bicycle prestiges, modiano PA, copags, fourniers, but went with the Gemaco Superflex deck FTW

The table itself sucked, as it was thick gaming suede, with zero glide... Made it a chore to gather mucked cards, chips, etc... Dealing was easy, since I just ninja starred the cards at each player... Ha!

As for the gemacos, shffling for three hours was no biggie.

Thanks for the great posts. Our group has pretty much always had copags. No real complaints from anyone, but tbf they do wash off somewhat quickly (no point of referrence, but that's the only thing I could say is "bad" about them). Ordered some desjgn decks after reading thread, hope they do well. Just a bit worried we've been staring at copag cards for couple of years too long and some people may dislike change just because of change.

You're right. They are a little different and some people dislike different.

In my experience, Copags do wear off relatively quickly compared to other brands.

Which style and color of Desjgns did you get?

The diamonds are a bit funky but I love them because the designs are just different enough to be interesting without being novelty cards. Unlike say crazy minimalist cards, which seem like a great idea but are actually terrible to play with.
