I am planning to organize home cash poker games in India. The buy-in would be ₹1000 (approx $15) and blinds would be ₹10/₹20. I want to order a custom 500 chips set for my games. We will typically have 8-9 players for the games.

I am thinking the initial stack size

₹10 - 15 chips
₹50 - 9 chips
₹100 - 4 chips

So I'm thinking of ordering a poker set with 150 ₹10 chips, 100 ₹50 chips, 100 ₹100 chips, 50 ₹500 chips, 50 ₹1000 chips, and 50 ₹5000 chips.

Ordering the ₹1000 and ₹5000 chips for tournament games. Is this a good mix? Any suggestions?

Solid five year wait for first post.

Most common breakdown in "dollars" for cash games is 1/5/25/100. For your game it looks like you'd be fine just adding a zero, so 10/50/250/1000. There's really no need for chips that are only twice as much as the next denomination down.

Ok, I did not find many poker sets with 250 denomination chips. Will dig a little more.

How about 200? Should work fine if available.

I think I would go with a $5 / $25 / $100 / $500 format. Sure the blinds will be two chips / four chips, but that doesn't seem to be a deal breaker.

What OP gets for this is a far larger pool of options for chips. Shipping to India could prove to be dauntingly expensive if not from a local vendor. I think the widest possible array of choices would prove beneficial.

A second benefit is the chip colors / value would be traditional. There aren't many sets sporting a $10, $50 and $200 chip. Such chips are available, just not common.

Didn't find them very common either.

Ok, that's a good strategy. But I would need a lot more $5 chips in that case. How many do you suggest for a 500 chips set? I'm currently in the US until the end of this month so shipping is not a problem.

I think something like this:

- ₹5 x 200
- ₹25 x 100
- ₹100 x 100
- ₹500 x 100

Should be a decent mix for cash and tourneys. If you really wanted to have 1K/5K chips you could go just 100 of the 5s, but the set probably becomes less good for cash at that rate.

So give each player 20x5, 8x25, 7x100 to start and have the 500s for rebuys mostly. Maybe only need 50 of the 500 denom chips at that rate.

I missed this issue the first time around - - - I encourage hosts not to use tournament chips for subsequent cash games. We all are generally confident our players are honest. But sure enough you will find an occasional tournament chip makes it way into a cash game. Better to have different chips to handle different types of games.
