Open Invite and See What Happens? Open Invite and See What Happens?

Good morning! Wondering about the casual home games and if it’s a casual invite or some sort of formal notification.

Once the game is considered regular (weekly with set time) then is it open door and newbies with a vouch?

I’m the early stages we’re going to reach out directly to our player pool and see what happens.

Take it easy.

If it's a "bunch of friends in a group", then I'd say create a mailing list (or text, or whatever means to communicate) of the regulars. A few days before each game, send out a message asking who's in at the designated date/time.

If you are short of the number of players you'd like to get, ask the group if they know anybody else who'd like to play. Keep a secondary list of those contacts, and use it when you need backups.

Of course, for each list, you'll want to keep in mind dropping players. Hope it doesn't happen, but every once in a while, someone will be a dick, act up, whatever, and lose their invitation.

Over time, some will drop off the primary list, and some from the secondary will move up and become regulars.

Something like that, tuned for your needs.

I guess I wouldn't do too much of an open door, just because there might be nights when demand overwhelms resources, and that makes you look bad. Probably better to have a known player pool each game.

Everyone wants different things in a home game environment. Might be a good idea to ask any players you think will be regulars what they're after in terms of games/set-up etc.

I'd be cautious inviting randoms to any home game, without a vouch as you mentioned also.

Most private games have a list of players that the host will send out a group text 'invite' an appropriate time ahead of the game. MAKE SURE THAT ONLY THE SENDER/HOST CAN SEE THE RETURN RESPONSES. There may be a primary group of Players and then also a secondary group of Players that get the text 'later' if not enough Regs respond quickly enough. Make the rules clear and hold to them (unless it's a whale .. then maneuver/negotiate)

Another way is that anyone who starts 'this' week has first option to start 'next' week or whatever time frame there is between games.

IMO you should send out requests at least 50% of the gap between events ahead of time. So if it's a monthly event, then you send out the inquires two weeks ahead and so forth.

Running a game is not as easy as it's made out to be. I think it actually takes more effort once it's established since you end up saying 'no' or 'on list' more often than when you were trying to build the game up.

Keeping the mix of Players is tough, randoms or 'wild' players can disrupt the flow and may cause some players to not return not realizing that 'somebody' needs to provide the action.

It all comes down to the hosts/players goals for the event. GL
