Online room for private game? Online room for private game?

03-20-2020 , 05:57 PM
Hello, I’m interested in creating an online private game of no limit hold them. Any card rooms you can suggest for this? I live in a state where online gambling is prohibited, and this coronavirus has screwed up our normal live game. Would love to create an online game for our regular players.

Any thoughts or suggestions?

Moving this to the home games forum.

We used to use Pokerstars Play-money Home games and just settle up via PayPal, back in the day. From another thread, it seems to still work.

Do they take a rake from the play money games? It looks like they do which is strange.

A game I play in, but haven't in months, is using www.pokernow.club...no rake, free to use...don't even have to give email addresses or anything...I played for fun heads up with one of the players yesterday...simple and fun.

However, I think NLHE is the worst game for cash home games, or cash games period...can't stand it. So I'm out.

Have been using PokerStars Home Games for our local meetup group. It is ok for tournies, but pretty clunky for cash games. If anyone has any better solutions, I would love to hear about them.

I honestly think they do this to circumvent exactly this situation from happening. They don't want people using their software to facilitate a $1/$2 home game so they A. dont offer those stakes B. They rake the game even in play money to avoid having people use a multiplication factor on the stakes. Smart on their part but I feel your pain.

We have used it for a tourney setup and that seems relatively easy but for a cash game I haven't found a site/software yet that facilitates this very well.

We are trying a cashgame tonight. Realizing that they are raking the play money at the end of the night we will distribute the money based on the percentage of the chips in play you have will determine the percentage of the buyin money you get, but kind of a pain. Again, if anyone thinks another online site is better equipped for this, please let me know.

I am going to be trying an app called pokerrrr2. It looks like you can set the stakes to whatever you want, rake free. But you can only use it on your phone. No PC or Mac version. We are gonna do it tonight just for play money to see if it works well. I'll let you know how it goes.

Pokerrrr 2 worked great. It keeps track of buy-ins, how much someone won or lost. No rake (unless you want there to be one as host). Very customizable. Of course I would only recommend this with people you know and trust. I could see collusion being a problem.

Can you explain the gold coins in pokerrrr 2 app?

The gold coins are the currency they use for you to host games and tournaments. For example, I set up a .25/.50 NL game for a table of 9. There is no rake, but the app charges me 6 gold coins per hour that the game is going on. You get gold coins by either having people sign up with your referral code (which gets you 10 gold coins for each referral. Mine is 81274069 by the way.) or by purchasing them. They cost about 15 cents per gold coin depending on the quantity you buy. That works out to about $1 per hour to host a game.

we used pokerstars.net and settle up w/ venmo, keep track of money in+ rebuys for each player. final cash on table - (moneyin + rebuys) = rake. keep track of time played (1/2 hour increments) by player and figure our rake back... downside is game goes too fast at showdown and can't view hand histories (could be user error)

I plan on doing the above. Does anyone know the rake schedule? If it's at or near a regular cash game, then that's fine. I just hope it's not so high that the game dynamics get thrown out of whack.

Crap, I think it's 10% uncapped.

We played for 5.5 hours last night with a consistent 8–9 players at 50/100 play money, during which 74,000 chips were raked. You can expect about 13,400 chips to be raked per hour.

It takes some discipline among your group. We had a good system going where I took buy orders and sent confirmations, immediately after which the player added the chips to the table. Players made sure to record their chip counts with me before leaving the game. I paid rakeback based on proportion of play time.

You have to treat this like a home game where everyone shows up with their own chips. If you mix their personal chips with the game chips, then balancing the till will be a nightmare.

I spent the last 2 months making this website - https://playcards.live/

You can create public/private games and play with friends. It's completely free, no download, no registration. You can also practice HU against my bot.

The interface is designed for face-to-face live poker. So it should be perfect for home poker. Suggestions and feedback welcome!

Hi,

Looks promising - I had a quick test just now.
Can you add more flexibility, e.g. buy-in and rebuy size?

Thanks

Thanks! Yes when you create the table you can choose from between 20 - 200 BB.

Yeah, but when an individual player buys in or rebuys, they have to buy in for a fixed amount?

Can you change the blinds? What are you using for your RnG?

You are right. I don't have that. Just curious, what's the use case you have in mind? Since this is not real money, why wouldn't you want all players to top up? And then you can change the stakes when creating the table.

Right now I'm just using a basic pseudo RNG. I can pretty easily switch to a noise-based RNG or a service-based one. Maybe I should just do that. Thanks for pointing it out!

This thread is about online replacements for home games, not online replacements for online play money games.
