We had our first game last night at my friend's new clubhouse. It's a pretty good place with banquet tables that he put toppers on, a kitchen and two bathrooms.

He charged a $5 per person fee to rent the clubhouse, plus he provided 7 pizzas. We had 16 players at two tables of 8 each. There were a few who only rarely play, a couple of people who haven't played with us in a long time, and a couple of new players.

We considered a quick tournament followed by a cash game, and I brought both my cash and tournament chips, but he didn't bring a laptop for the timer, so we were screwed in that regard. But no worries, a cash game is a lot easier to manage anyway, so we got started with that.

We played our usual $40 buy-in, pot luck game, with .25/.50 Holdem and .25/.25 Omaha. We play two orbits of holdem, an orbit of Omaha, two orbits of Holdem, then one orbit of Omaha 8. Repeat.

My luck getting cards was fairly so-so. I stayed about even for a while, got whittled down a little, then lost about half of my stack on a pretty awful river bluff. In Omaha, I called with a weak drawing hand in last position. No one seemed enthused, as there was a check on the turn, and it was checked to me on the river. With a board of 99288 I bet $15, a bit more than half the pot. There was no way the rivered 8 made a hand that I didn't already have, and I got called by the nut flush. My bad.

I had to top off another $20, but I worked my way back up with a couple of good hands, and a couple more, better-timed bluffs. I ended up $28, which I was happy with, considering the hands I was dealt.

He's going to host three times each month, rotating through our pot limit game, a higher limit game, and a tournament. It's good to have a reliable venue again.

It takes us old timers back to the days when we used to play in a swim club pool house. That was over 15 years ago.

Side story: one night at this pool house we somehow locked ourselves in the pool house. Inside, and couldn't get out. Now that has to be a fire code violation. Only the back doors were unlocked, and they led out onto a balcony overlooking the pool.

Escaping was not too easy. We had to climb over the railing, balance a short distance across the top of the 10 foot chain link fence around the pool, then grab a metal pole which was topped with lights for the pool, and slide down to the ground. We all made it, but one player, who is on the large side, caught his pants on the twisted wires of the fence on the way down. When he hugged that pole and slid, there was no stopping him, and he ripped the ass of his pants wide open.

Sounds like the new venue was a hit for sure. I am sure your are happy to be back on a regular game schedule again in a nice atmosphere.

Yeah, it's a nice room, with plenty of parking and well away from all of the townhouses. I love the game rotation, too. We've been just playing cash and nothing but, which is my first love, but I like variety, too.

I've never done customs. You should start a thread. You'll get more exposure there.

We played last night with 14 people at two tables. We played 1.5 hours of cash, then played a 2 hour shove-a-thon tournament, then another 2 hours of cash. It worked out well. The tournament length was a little laughable for 14 players, but it was only $20, and there were some wild hands.

Personally, I did not do so well. I ended 5th in the tourney, and it only paid 3 places. A couple of people were going all-in with less than 4 BBs and the chips passed around the table for quite some time. My ATs < K5o when a 5 hit the river. And then my JTs < AA and I was gone.

In cash, I had a pretty meh session as well, but only dropped $10.

Our host served a huge platter of burritos from Moe's, plus sides. Not a bad value for $5.

I can almost hear an echo int his thread...but anyway.

I played in our standard cash game last night. Only 8 players this week. An excellent assortment of pizzas, including a new one: sweet chili and grilled chicken. Wow. Four pizzas for 8 players, so plenty of food.

I ran hot, cold, then hot. Went from $40 to about $80, then was card dead forever. Had to fold a couple of made hands where I thought I was no good. Whittled down to about $45 when things turned around.

Like flopping quad kings in PLO8 while in the BB. I check-call a $4 bet from the button on the KKQ flop, then $8 on the J turn. The river brings 3 to a flush. I do something I rarely do. I check the river with quads, praying she will bet again. She bets $10. I raise to $30. She never believes I have anything, so she calls with a Q high flush.

The very next hand I flop the nut flush with As4sXX and a T53 board. In the SB now, I do it all over again vs the same player. Check-call. Turn is a 7, giving me the second nut low, which I check-call. The river I check-raise. She calls again, hoping to back into the low with an 82, but it is a scoop for me.

Another hand of note is QT on the button when I impulsively decide to raise fairly large when it is limped to me by three players. Five people see the flop (because that's what we do), which is T high. MP player decides to lead out for half the pot. I call. He bets every street, and the board is still T high, but the river brings three to a straight. On the river, he bets about 1/4 the pot. I am almost sure he didn't limp-call preflop with a bigger pair than Ts, and although he could have made a straight or two pair, I figure I need to call. I'm right. He has second pair and a busted straight draw.

I ended up $132 on a $40 buy-in, so a good rush at the end makes my night.

Déjà vu!

(Talk about hearing an echo... except I was on the other end of the slow played quad kings).

You play PLO8? I like that game.

However, I think there's a problem with PLO8. The problem, I think, is the game is generally unsustainable because the good players beat the crap out of the poor players too quickly.

It has been several years, but I still remember losing a huge pot to slow played quad kings.

My hand: AA52

Flop, turn, river, KA4,K,9

Villain's hand: K3K2

I didn't get check/raised on the river, but only because I managed to get most of my money in the pot on the turn after my opponent checked... (when he checked the turn, I thought perhaps he had the nut low draw and I wanted to charge him for it).

At the time, I reasoned the only hand that could beat me was quad kings, but from my perspective kings full of aces was twice as likely (crudely two ways for an ace plus a king, and only one way for two kings:
• KKYZ
• KAYZ
• KAYZ)

(A puzzlement to me at the time was Villain would not likely have check/called on the turn with kings full of aces. Still, I was not about to fold aces full to his river bet).

You check raised her and cleaned her plow twice in succession on big pots? Ouch! (I wouldn't do that because I would fear that would be too much for her to bear... but you know your customers better than I do).

I enjoy reading your posts. Take care.

I thought about taking the same line with nothing next game, and shovel some back to her. But what if she folds a good hand face up? Do I show and really drive her mad?

I might try this, but I won't show if she folds. I'll report back here.

I've been telling her that I've had the goods every time. So it will be interesting to see if she picks this time to adjust.

Some players just go berserk ( well a little anyway) when they get bluffed and you show it. I just tap the table or thumbs up and say WP and I mean it. It is not the reaction "bluff showers" want , so folks don't show me that much in our regular game.

If she thinks you bluff all the time anyway and doesn't pull out a Gom Jabbar , it might not be an issue.

I'm considering pulling the trigger on this myself. Having just sat down and re-read the Dragonlance books for the first time in years, I have an idea for custom chips that I think I'd enjoy.

Now to just work out graphics and start putting aside the money.

Breich and jzpiano, who did you guys use for your chips?

Played so bad tonight. Berated a fish when he went all-in (about 12 times the pot) on a board of Q678Q. I had Q2 (BB special) and laid it down face up and he showed Q8 to needle me and I told him he could have so much more me if he hadn't overbet the pot.

Then I lost my stack to the fish just before the end of the rebuy period when I made a bad call with top pair decent kicker with a pair on the board. He went all-in again (but only twice the pot this time). I convinced myself he couldn't possible have a good hand because he couldn't be stupid enough to overbet the pot after I berated him earlier. Guess what, he was stupid enough as he rivered a full house after flopping a set.

Ok two topics, unrelated.

1. Disclaimer: We don't usually play wild card games, it was almost 4 am, and alcohol was involved.

Playing Follow the Queen (7 stud variant, Q wild and the next card to come is wild). Before the 7th card is dealt you have the option if you want your last card up or down. At this point in the hand, Q's and 10's are wild. Seat 1 takes his last card up, it's a Q. Next to act wants his card down...Here's the question. Are 10's still wild because he isn't taking the next card up? Or are only queens wild now? Thoughts?

Spoiler:
I always played that the 10's in this scenario would not be wild...The 4 players in the hand all agreed that 10's should stay wild if the last two to act also took their cards down, which they did, because they also held 10's

2. The topic of MMA and the abilities of Rhonda Rousey came up. The question was, could any of us guys at the table could take a 125lb female world champ? We range from 22 to 50, with some athletic and some lumpy dudes. I was surprised at the responses.

Spoiler:
I say no chance in hell! Our biggest guy is 6'3", 250lb, very solid. Maybe, just maybe, he could hang for a minute just by sheer size and weight advantage. It was close to 50% of the guys saying they could hang. One guy from our group is a former college wrestler and a purple belt in jiu jitsu, and said she would give a, "snap, tap, or a nap" for any dude in the house.

1. It's been a while since we played that game...like 15 years? But as I recall, we played it such that if there was no card following the last queen, there was no wild card. I don't think there is a hard and fast rule, though. You need to set a standard and stick to it.

2. I don't know your crowd, but unless they are used to fighting, they are going to get their ass kicked. Most people lead peaceful lives. Although they may be stronger than her, and capable of violence, they are not accustomed to it. So either they would have to get really amped up and ready to attack a woman (which most men are also not accustomed to), or they are going to be overwhelmed very quickly.

On the other hand, almost any man with above average fitness, and who trains to fight should have no problem taking her.

Haven't posted much, but hopefully will be back to more online stuff now that school is ending tomorrow!

Played in quite a few games thought this month including the MadTown Throwdown in Madison a few weekends back hosted by a PCF/CT'er. On top of playing our group affected by the haxors on anyvite was forced to move our invite lists over. In the end we decided to try out starting a meet up group which seems to be going very well. Last weeks game we had two new players, one who I think will be coming back again, and looking ahead next week we should also have two new people joining us. Games have begun to run more consistently again and with full tables and waitlists.

At the table we've had two amazing weeks in a row as a group with some excellent card playing, great banter, and a hell of a good time. We played until 3:30 in the morning last night playing Omaha 8 and I'm pretty sure had I not called it people would've kept playing. I started off pretty slow last night, but after about 2 hours I couldn't miss. At one point I hit a straight flush against the A high flush.

Brag alert: I managed to turn just over two racks into just over seven last night. Here is a picture of my stack towards the end of the evening.

Anyvite was hacked? I haven't used it in a while but I can't seem to google anything about it.

They sent an email out in December I think. The free service was hacked and even if you switched to the pay site they wouldn't guarantee it was going to keep working as it is just a side thing for them. That is why our group switched over.

Just finished a vacation with the family to Panama City Beach. Two sessions at Ebro left me booking about a 100BB win. Tournaments continue to be my weak spot, as I missed the money by 2 in one of them and got screwed by the deck in the 2nd. All in all, it felt good to book two wins in a row, no matter how small.

As of this point, I should be fully moved into my new house by the 23rd, and the first cash game there is going to be on the 27th. I just need to find someone to come install new floors downstairs for me before I move into the place. I just hope my table doesn't cramp the room I'm planning for its permanent home.
