Re: Official Home Poker LC/Open Thread

I've been tracking my profit/loss per session for over 2 years now. I've just recently started to dig into the session length vs. profit/loss stats. I quickly discovered that I don't do as well during the longer sessions. I'll be working on this during the year since I imagine the other players are also losing money as the night progresses.

I've got similar session logs for the last year and a half at least. I should look at some averaged data to see what kinds of trends I find.

Re: Official Home Poker LC/Open Thread

I've been in a poker drought for the past few weeks. No one can host for one reason or another.

But there is hope. One player has bought a new home, and there is space for a poker room. He won't move in for a couple of months, though.

I smoked the last game I played. I had almost half the money on the table. Ended up about 340 BB. It's great when you get cards and your opponent thinks you're bluffing.

How about instead of monthly, we go yearly?

I was going to suggest yearly. I think it depends on how unwieldy we find this thread gets by year's end. Luckily, we have plenty of time.

How about we go the way of MSLHE and make a new thread when Wookie feels like it?

Kinda rough playing razz on one table and O8 on the other while everyone in the house is going berserk.

Hit this bad boy last night. I this is #14 lifetime, but only the second one live. I have evidence of 11, but lost 3 others when I blew up a computer/back up drives.

Boom, baby! Still waiting for my first one - never hit one live and didn't play enough online to hit one there either.

Congrads! I have had only two. One online Full Tilt play money game. LOL One here at our home game (spades) and made a decent pot with a guy with a small spade flush who called a river VB for a modest amount.

Was this the only Hold'em Royal? Mine (my first ever!) was in Omaha.

How many was that you said you have hit.

Random picture of my son the day of the superbowl as I was losing money to Breich. He went to the doctors for his 6 month last week and was in the 97% for weight/head and over the 99% in weight. My kid is a toddler....

I'm planning to hit my first ever this April in Atlanta against Breich. While I'm dreaming, let's make it AKs vs 89s with QJT on the board, and we both need to be at least 1000bb deep.

Re: Official Home Poker LC/Open Thread

I played in my first tourney of the year last night with the $10 uber-casual weekly NLHE group that I joined back in mid-2008. It's pretty amazing to me that they started in early 2004 not long after Moneymaker won, and they've run continuously since. At the group's peak in 2009-2010, we were consistently getting 18-25 players each week. Now, it's typically 8-12.

I hit some cards early and built an above-average stack, then rode out a long dry spell until mid-tourney when the mood shifted from "It's cheap, why not?" to "Hey, I'm getting short, maybe I shouldn't see every single flop." I played fairly TAG, though some of the other players confuse aggression with bluffing, so I'm often able to get paid when I hit.

The two key hands were frighteningly similar. In the first, villain is trappy with big pairs, never believes me, and is very easily tilted. He'd hit a mid-game heater and had a pretty large stack, but had recently taken a few beats and lost more than half of it. I opened from CO with the big stack and 79s, he calls from the button. Flop is 7-high rainbow, I bet, he shoves, and I snap-call. His raise was less than half pot and I covered, but I shouldn't have called without thinking. Tricky turns over aces, the turn blanks, and the river hits my nine for two pair. Tricky is livid and complains about my suckout all the way out the door.

A couple more eliminations, and I'm heads-up with about 1/3 of the chips in play. We pass a few pots back and forth, then I wake up with KK in the big blind. He limps, I raise, he calls, and the flop comes raggy and rainbow. I check, villain bets, and I CRAI. He tanks for 15-20 seconds and calls, tabling 46 for middle pair and backdoor straight and flush draws. Runner-runner hearts give him the flush and give me second place.

Unlike the previous cracked big pair, this villain and I both have a good laugh about it.

Re: Official Home Poker LC/Open Thread

Our weekly Friday cash game is tomorrow. It is also Friday the 13th. So I have set up an unlucky suckout prize. If you make a straight or flush that gets beat by a full house (two pair on turn, river suckout) then you win a $20 chip for our .25-.50 stakes NLH game. One prize per night only.

One guy wanted to do it for our twice an orbit Omaha Hi hands , but I told him that things like that happen in Omaha 14 times a night at our game and are not considered remotely unlucky!
