Im hosting a home game soon in which I’m asking my friend to be the dedicated dealer, I am working/spending money on things to make the game better so it’ll be raked. But Im not sure what’s standard with dealers, does he get a a cut of the rake? If so how much? Or is he payed by the tips?

online sites' take rate is between 5-10%. they have built the app and host the game etc. If the dealer is your friend (like you said) I'd give him a fix fee (per hour) and encourage every player to tip him for good hands....

I can't speak to a raked home game (careful!).

In the home game in which I play, we have a few people that deal instead of play. They accept tips from the players for dealing per hand. We're all pretty generous, they do well. But it's also more of a social atmosphere than a job,

In the bar poker league in which I deal, there's a small salary and the players generally tip for the evening, not on a per-hand basis (since it's tournament, not cash). I also deal a very small-stakes cash game, each player tips for the evening there too. That works out satisfactorily to me; however, I'm in each more for a night out than money.

A question you need an answer to is, how much is Bob's time worth? Nobody except Bob can answer that. Then, you should attempt to structure the game in such a way that he is likely to get there (or find someone else if Bob overvalues himself).

The casino dealers are paid by both the house and players. If you are structuring your raked home game the same way, then you'll pay the dealer and the players will tip the dealer.

From a tipping perspective, I'd expect the dealer to collect at least the amount of a small blind on any hands with action. Depending on the stakes and the dealer, that may be enough, or may need to be supplemented.

The standard in underground games in my city is that dealers get tips only. Dealers can make great money on tips alone.

I am pretty sure our dealers work on tips only. If they deal ~25 - 30 hands per hour and do a good job, they'll have to make at least $25/hour. I'd be happy with that if I were someone who dealt poker on the side. If it turns out tips suck, maybe work something else out (and find new players!).

I've been to games where the dealer gets payed nothing by the host and actually has to pay the host a cut of their tips for the privilege of dealing. I think that's absurd, and frankly don't trust games like that. Too much likelihood of over-raking.

Been to lots of places where the dealers work for tips only, especially as it's a common work-around to legal issues. That's fine, as long as the players are aware and there are competent dealers willing to do it, imo.

1. home game with rake GTFO.
2. it is illegal to charge rake at a home game.

Unless i'm running an illegal gambling spot the dealer only receives tips or everyone takes turn dealing.

Call it a club and charge $3-$5 every 30 minutes for the club fee. No rake, easy game. Perfectly legal.

Kentucky law actually say that providing the "paraphernalia" (chips, table, etc.) is illegal. However, we now have one "legit" poker club and it seems to be working. We also had one shut down (Moneymaker's), though, so who knows?
