Work has made my life harder by forcing me to use client-side web filtering on my laptop. This breaks my ability to access 2p2 on this machine, even when I'm at home or tethered with my phone (my old method of choice). So now Tapatalk is the only way I can get here during the day, which may make some moderation tasks difficult. Color me annoyed.

On the upside, I took down a small tourney last night that ran WAY long. We were five handed forever, mostly just passing blinds to whoever jammed. By the time we were HU, there were 11bb on the table, and I just got luckier than my opponent. I'll take the win, but there was no real post flop skill required for the last 90 minutes.

These are the nights when I miss the old 20-25 player weekly tourneys. Those got enough chips on the table for some much better heads up matches.

I haven't played crap for home poker lately, except for my LHE stake online. I started another PG&C thread to try to keep myself motivated towards playing. I'm gonna be streaming Mondays and Thursdays at 6PM/4PM central, if any of you are interested.

Also expect to see an HPI poll thread up tonight or tomorrow!

I am in the midst of the longest poker drought in many years. I've played once this year. Once.

Our regular Monday night game has not had an available venue. I've already opined about that somewhere here, so I won't repeat myself. But I estimate we have averaged 46-48 sessions per year over the last 10 years. So this is really unusual.

I missed a really good tournament because I got notice about it too late to reschedule something. I think the next game by that host will be in April.

Other than that, I've decided not to play in the raked games around here. They aren't my thing right now.

I don't know if I can make this happen, but I'm going to see if I can get people together on a Sunday afternoon. Sunday is tough for some of our crew, but hopefully I can get enough to play.

I have a theory that as people's kids get older transitioning to weekend games will become less of an issue. Yet to be seen, will have to wait 10 years and assuming I'm still playing with the same guys.

We'll see. For many it's easier to go out to play during the week. But to host, the weekend is better in some ways.

Also maybe consider Friday nights like our group does weekly. Most folks don't work early Saturdays (exceptions of course). TV usually sucks a bit on friday. Most college and pro sports take fridays off mostly. And lots of folks still get paid on fridays LOL Just a few reasons to consider it.

One game since Jan 1st?? You must be in withdrawls!!

I think that's true. More directly, as we age weekends have less importance as times our wives more or less expect us to spend with them.

I have been playing poker with some of the members of our weekly home poker group for over twenty years.

Ours too. When we were younger Thursday night was poker night.

Rochester New York or Austin Texas? Sounds like fun, but both of those are a long way from Los Angeles CA.

2+2 will probably have their annual party in Las Vegas around the fourth of July. That's always fun.

You dick. I'm the only one who gets to see them first.

So you didn't want me to play HU FOR ROLLZ against the kid all night with them? Oh well, at least I feel better since I'm on a full stomach. That delicious greasy pizza I ate should be enough to be sure those chips got a proper coating of oil for you. Your welcome. However, the most important part of this whole story is that I won the HU battle.

Oh, but it seems I have won, sir.

I like my Pharoah's. Whoever uses them will enjoy them.

I've griped about our lack of a host for our long-standing game, but it looks like there are brighter days ahead. One of our original players, who started the game a year or so before I joined, has bought a condo and arranged to use their club house three times each month.

My friend has already started planning the game. Instead of our usual .25/.50 pot limit holdem/omahas game, he'll play that once each month, and have a 1/3 limit game and a tournament the other two sessions. Sounds good to me.

He's also trying to barter in lieu of the $45 club house rental. If that doesn't work out, we'll have to pitch in $5 or so each, which isn't so bad.

So your game drought may be over shortly and at a nice location. Best wishes!

Debut of the new chips was a success. I broke the game after five hours of playing when I knocked two players out to go to four handed play. Being stuck $250 and in for $580, I raised TdTx to $7 pre and got the SB and BB to call. Flop goes 733dd. SB with $55 behind makes it $15 to go. BB, having pushed flush and straight draws hard all night, makes it $45. I calmly pour another 312 into a glass and then announce a raise to $120. SB goes all in, and BB shoves. I call. SB rolls K9dd, BB rolls Jxdd. TT holds up and I scoop the pot. BB was done for the night, and SB didn't want to play four handed. The ~$600/300bb hand put me up just over $100 on the night.

A fixed-limit game with a $1 small bet and $3 big bet? Or a $3/$6 limit game with $1 and $3 blinds?

The former. He said he played that in AC and it's a great game. New to me.

It sounds interesting. I've just never seen $1/$3 spread anywhere unless it was $1/$3 NLHE. And I don't think I've seen limit $1/anything spread regularly in a casino at all.

Not poker related, but really the reason I haven't been posting as much recently. I've been grinding for the last 4 months to finish my dissertation so I could graduate this year. With the ways things were coming into the year that meant I spent everyday except one (all day poker game FTW) since January 1st working on it for 5-6 hours minimum a day. During that time I completed my research study, got transcriptions done, analyzed all the data from 18 interviews + 48 journal entries, and wrote 200+ pages in the last 5 weeks. I'm happy to report that I finished the writing portion this afternoon and will be submitting the 'final' copy to my chair tomorrow afternoon before the April 1st deadline. I still need to do some editing tomorrow and prepare for the defense on April 14, but excited right now is a major understatement.

While waiting for my feedback from my committee I will be building two casino tables for my brother's surprise casino night bachelor party on April 11 (could this have come at a worse time?!). I'm building a BJ table and a Caribbean Stud table. The BJ table I will be keeping, but I will be giving the CS table to my brother for his mancave as part of his wedding gift. I just finalized the custom cloth for it tonight and it will be shipped this week. If I remember to take pictures along the way I will post them up, but if nothing else I will get the finalized versions of both up.

Also our poker group has moved over to meet up which is a post for another day...

I asked him more about it, because I thought the same thing. It might be an idea he had, and he invented the casino story to give it gravitas.

But idea does intrigue me. I've never played limit where the big bet is not 2X.

How do you think it will play out? I foresee a lot of people seeing the flop, then a lot of folds on the flop betting round if there is a raise or two.

200 pages in 5 weeks? That is some serious production.

Basically, yeah, that's how I see it playing out. Implied odds become more of a consideration than in a traditional x/2x structured game. Better players will open up their preflop ranges a little more than usual and be a little more inclined to draw on the flop, relying on those $3 big bets to get paid. I'd imagine raising the turn would become an important power play as well.

Weaker players will go from playing almost anything to a flop, to playing absolutely anything to a flop because, "Hey, it's only a dollar!"
