Is it normal that others think you're a bad player? Is it normal that others think you're a bad player?

I find this pretty frustrating.
I believe I'm by far the best player in most if not all the home games I play.

There may be 1 or 2 players who could play better than me if they actually played seriously, but they often just punt around.

I've now logged 200 hours where I'm winning at €16/h in 1/1 games mostly, with a bit of 2/2 mixed in. (I know this is a small sample.)

Yet it often seems like half the table, especially the more experienced players, think I'm a bad, if not the worst, player at the table?

Are these guys just blinded by ego? Are they really this clueless?
Or am I really just bad without realizing it?

I find it very strange how experienced, non-terrible, players can think of me as a bad/losing player.

It can have its advantages to be viewed as a poor player. That set aside, what do these players say when you always cash out up? How often do they cash out up?

Embrace it. "Yep, I just got lucky"

Doubt they notice, I have plenty of losing sessions too.

I have had this experience over and over again. But i don't find it frustrating, I think it is a good thing.

There isn't much (if any) value in trying to change people's point of view. Do not tap the glass, enjoy your table image while you rake in the chips.

If you're winning, the other players at the game thinking you're bad is a best case scenario.

"Hey, invite that fish again, I'm going to beat him this time...."

Totally this.

OP, is this group of players all friends of yours? Is the problem that you want them to all know you're a good player and your ego is hurt that they don't?

If it's just a fun home game among friends, who cares? As long as everyone is having fun, what does it matter?

Nice attempt at a soul read, but no.

We only have home games in Belgium atm, casino's are open but haven't re-opened the poker tables.
So I'm not playing with friends.

I just find it strange how some of these players, who I think are actually decent/good and winning players, think I'm bad.

I think this is just a good example of players not being as good or attentive as you think they are.

Sounds like you found a juicy private game, so milk it for all it's worth! If they think you're bad, you probably don't have to be worry about them kicking you out of it.

All you have to do now is work out if it applies you you or your opponents.

It's not normal for sure.

But then again, if you're actually turning a significant profit, it's perfectly fine.

I rarely ever see anyone flat out saying that another player is bad in my games. And nobody would ever join in either. It does seem strange to me.

The only bad comments I see in my games are about nits. And some of them get literally insulted for the whole evening. They usually bring other players and are allowed to play for that reason only. This is the only case I have ever witnessed this kind of abuse.

Then again, at 1/1, they probably don't understand much about the game anyway, so who cares as long as you win? It's a better position than to be considered the shark of the room;

You say you're a good player, but if you have plenty of losing sessions how do you expect people to know that? And why the heck would you want them to think you're good? I give a lot more action to someone I think is bad!

I don't see any problem with that. When your opponent underestimates you it's always good, the main thing is to be able to take advantage of it.

Think about it: Do you want them all agreeing that you are the best player at the game? When a new guy comes in, do you want them all to warn them and say "oh, stay away from him, he's the best player here!"

+infinity

i primarily played private games in asia and playing about 60 hours a week for over a year had 17+bb/hour wr

people were convinced i was the table fish strictly because i have a happy go lucky personality, would smoke pot at the table, play very loose preflop, played aggressively, and made a lot of hero calls on the river

you have a hand like J9s and there's a bunch of limpers and everyone is 300bb deep so you raise to 2.5bb just to play a bigger pot on the btn and flat 2 streets of small donk bets on a KT7 flop with a backdoor flush draw because you know someone would have raised with AJ and if a Q or 8 comes you can play for stacks and sure enough you do and then the guy who bet 25% pot on flop and turn oop with K7o and calls a 3x psb shove on river to lose to your straight can't get past how poorly you played the hand for not folding when he was crushing you with two pair and how you're such an idiot luckbox so he reloads to try again

even had a few people assume i was some trust fund kid donking off his inheritance nightly because they knew i didn't have a 9-5 but never realized that poker was my income not my vice

Everybody thinks they’re good at poker. Big reason why there’s so much talk of online poker being “rigged”
