I want to start running poker tournaments at a friends bar but can’t seem to find out the legalities on it. Does anyone know where I can find out whether or not I can host games?

A home game is not a poker tournament in a bar. One is private and one is public. Likely you can run a bar league type game openly IF no money is changing hands.

It's not legal in Michigan.
