Our home game is Dealer's Choice. Spread Limit, with a dealer ante. Usually capped at 8 players, although we've stretched to 9 occasionally, and play with less from time to time.

Lots of "omaha" type games, in the sense that you must use an exact number of your cards depending on which way you play a board. There are often multiple boards and often 5 cards in your hand.

The L has been kind of a dud game. Last night we tweaked the play and it generated some large multiway pots.

Each player gets 5 down cards. Then the board starts to get revealed (lots of our boards are pre-dealt, over my suggestion otherwise).

4A
3B 4B
2C 3C 4C
1D 2D 3D 4D

There are 10 community cards, arranged in 4 rows with 1-2-3-4 cards in each row.

You can play:
All 5 your cards
4 of your cards and 4A or 4D
3 of your cards and 3B-4B or 4C-3D
2 of your cards and 2C-3C-4C or 4B-3C-2D
1 of your cards and 1D-2D-3D-4D or 4A-3B-2C-1D

Hi-low, 8 to qualify.
Dealer ante.
Preflop betting round.
Reveal 1D card.
Betting round.
Reveal 2C-D cards.
Betting round.
Reveal 3B-C-D cards.
Betting round.
Reveal 4A-B-C-D cards.
Betting round.

Problems were:
No made hands until the last reveal
1D card was pretty useless.

First tweak:
Reveal the "4" cards first, then "3", then "2", then "1"
Now hands are made, people are betting draws are chasing.
1D was still a useless card.

Second tweak:
Reveal the corners 4A - 1D - 4D
Reveal 4B and 4C
Reveal "2" cards
Reveal the "3" cards
That was the preferred way to deal it.
Big pots, a few bad beats, a couple scoops.

Thoughts and comments welcome

I will say that I consider myself one of the better players, and board readers. On a couple deals, I missed some of my flopped made hands. I missed some bets, perhaps made up for it by keeping my hand disguised? Too tired, too new a game? I'll see how I do next week
