I'll have a car and will be happy to share if I end up at Harrah's (which sounds likely at this point).

I haven't booked a flight yet. I'm trying to get my boss to send me to SIGGRAPH in Anaheim, which is July 21-25. If that happens, I'll just rent a car and drive to Phoenix. That'll make the trip a little cheaper since my employer will be picking up part (maybe all) of the airfare.

Let me know before you book. I might YOLO this one and fly down there if I don't have to spend the money on an attorney. Work is an absolute **** storm right now. I can't post online just in case, but will update people in person if you want to know.... If I go I'm good for one of the rooms still.

Damn... we'll talk later this week at the game. I'll keep an eye on Southwest this week.

Some crossover news from low-content to HPI, but I like bumping this thread.

Spent Sun-Thurs in Vegas, very little poker played, but visited both Spinetti's and Gambler's General Store, as well as shopping at the WSOP for a few 2012 [not 2013, obv] setups.

GGS is currently "fighting" against Spinetti's retail location - they've put up a chain link fence stopping walking traffic, and making it difficult for driving traffic to get to Spinetti's from their parking lot. GGS also had a greatly reduced inventory from my last visit. Fewer slot machines, weaker chip selection, more kitschy knick-knacks than before. If Spinetti's wasn't next door (despite the chain link fence), it probably wouldn't be worth visiting them unless there was something very specific you wanted to buy and save shipping on.

I picked up some new sealed, numbered craps dice sets at GGS, and then moved to Spinetti's.

Spinetti's had nearly the perfect cards, if they weren't old PokerStars leftovers: I hate logo'd cards, but they were Dal Negro bridge/jumbo with shaded pips for $10 for a two-deck setup.
http://www.spinettisgaming.com/image...rdsideuprd.jpg

For nearly the same price, I got a setup of Dal Negro Treviso decks:
http://www.spinettisgaming.com/image...othside2rd.jpg
[The PS cards also say Treviso, but aren't the same faces. *shrug*]

...and while I hate the ways that Copag cards fade, I'm going to give another go at what might be their perfect card - the Saraswati. Bridge/Jumbo, more shaded centers, with a design back that isn't too "out" there.
http://www.spinettisgaming.com/Copag...i-Bridge-Size/

I also picked up a new set of Pai Gow Tiles tiles. A slightly nicer one at $20. Great deal including a case, shaker dice and a banker button. [If only shakers weren't $40.]

Back over at the WSOP I picked up the aforementioned pair of WSOP 2012 decks. They were $18/ea, but that's before a 20% Diamond discount - and then I just paid with points. I'm still not a fan of logo'd backs, but they're pretty "safe" ubiquitous cards. It's hard to find fault with them.

So, anyway, gathering supplies for the event

Is there a backstory to this war between the stores we could read somewhere? I hadn't heard about it.

I'll get the second room booked. Right now they want $30 a night or so, but I don't have any comps past 7/7 on the books yet -- so I'll hold off a smidge.

[I'll never "pay" the $30, just use points, so it's funny money anyway...]

Just went to book the flight and went up $60 each way since the other day. Going to wait another couple of days and see what the price does.

I'm still thinking about flying to LV and getting a couple days in before making the drive to Phoenix. Currently I'm looking at $475-550 for RT from Orlando to LV.

If I go to SIGGRAPH, though, my employer will cover airfare from home to LA and back. I should be able to change the return flight and add a one-way from LA to Phoenix on Thursday. It'll be considerably cheaper and I get to go to SIGGRAPH. Win-win!

I've got a good pool of local players who will play at any "normal" limit.
  • I've got a group that plays NLHE and PLO at what is essentially the $1/1 (not 1/2) level regularly.
  • I've got a group that plays mixed games at the $0.25/0.50 level.
  • I've got a group that plays $10 tournaments twice a night.
  • I've got friends who are degenerates who'll gamble at anything.
  • I can easily pool players to play larger limit games from any of these groups.
I think if you three, plus the semi-local guys (zatharas, ec_outlaw) want to identify some sort of games that you'd like to play and some limits that you'd like to play them, I'll make sure that there's at least a table worth of those people available when you'd like to do it - and I can advertise for it "plus more!"

As happy I was when it was decided it would be held in Phoenix, I'm equally as pissed now because I don't know how much I'll be able to attend. A couple things came up that has put my finances in a pretty bad spot over the last few months. And if things at work don't pick up between now and then, it's gonna be tough. I'm hoping to at least make it out for the tournament, but cash games are really up in the air. We'll see how the next month or so goes.

I'd love to see some $3/6-$5/10 limit games running in LHE, Omaha, Omaha 8, Big O, Stampler, 2-7 TD, Chicago, Southside. Also looking to play some NLHE, PLO, PLO8 games if we are going to play big bet.

Personal preference is to get some mix of NL, PL, Limit into a game. Like $4/$8 limit and $1/1 NL/PL worked well together for my home game group.

Personally I would like to play limit mixed games, anywhere from 2/4 to 10/20 limit; any games that are generally played in casino mixed games, but not the crazy home game/wild card games.

People looking for flights- if allegiant serves your city flights are sometimes very inexpensive to the Mesa gateway airport. It's probably worth looking.

As far as games go, I'm primarily a low stakes player and that's what I'll stick to in the dark corner . Something in the 2/4-3/6 limit and .25/.50 to .50/1 big bet games work for me.

Huge, huge +1 on this. I'll play any mixed limit game up to $5/$10. Would love all the games mentioned above. As for NL/PL, I'll play them but they're not my preference. I'll still play up to $1/$1, but if there is a limit-only table most of my time will be spent there.

I'm also down for some kind of HPI tournament. I'm game for anything up to $100 as a buy-in, but I think that something like last year iirc, like a $50 buy-in plus a $10 bounty would be oodles of fun. ($10 last longer bet is officially open.) I would absolutely love to help run that, if needed, as it sounds like jz was quite busy when he ran his. I'm a huge computer nerd so I can get all that set up if needed.

Also, and while I highly doubt you need them, my 1300-chip Windy City set is at your disposal.

Last year's tourney was 40+10 and then I made a billion last longer bets and paid out everyone....Yeah sucking at tournies!

I was super busy last year so one recommendation to Pali, since he wasn't around for the tourney is to either not play in it, or have someone/few people help out.

I definitely want to play lots of mixed limit, but I'm also aware that I'll be outgunned by many of you, so I'd prefer no higher than 3/6. I'm willing to pay an arm for my education but not a leg too.

I'm fine with 1/1 NLHE/PLO/PLO8 but will happily play lower if that's what the crowd wants.

I think Pali said $60 is the magic number for his local tourney players, so 50+10 bounty sounds good to me.

Also, Pali suggested making Thursday night low stakes and drinking. I think this is a great idea; I'd love to make it 1/2 FL and open the door to a bunch of the goofy stuff and multi-board games like Cowpie, Binglaha, Omaha 3-2-1, etc. that we don't normally see in mixed FL.

Plus, I can drink a lot of beer and not worry about blowing my roll on the first night.

+1 on drinking Thursday night. 1/2 fixed limit plus rediuclous games plus beer = me three betting the **** out of jz all night. The bastard three bet me with JJTT in Stampler last friday, but he had the J so it was ok. (Draw for seats?)
