Club Home Table Build Question

For those of you that have built your own table, what do you recommend to use for padding when completing the rail? Our rail is built and I have the vinyl covering, I just need some good padding to attach to it before covering.

Re: Home Table Build Question

I got mine from YAT (yourautotrim.com)

Worked great:

1" X 54" X 108" PREMIUM 65lb. HD Rail Foam (2.0/65lb)

The thick green foam from Jo Ann fabrics, or a arts and crafts place like it. Make sure you get coupons cause that stuff can be pricey.

Or like the above, get it from YAT

That's a really great looking table? How much of the work did you do on your own? Did you buy a frame and then do the padding and felt? Or did you make the entire thing from scratch?

Thank you!

I made it all myself - with a combination of a few great table building guides and forums. Lots of planning. It’s 3 sheets of plywood. 1 for the rail, 1 for rail lip and center, one for the base. This was my second build and turned out much better than my first (octagon with a racetrack).

Wow! Very nice. The ones I've made are no way as good.

Re: Home Table Build Question

Mine was built in 2004 using the site provided by Chris Norrick at http://chris.norrick.com. On my table I used vinyl fabric (fake leather) over an automobile headliner material for the padding, both purchased from the local fabric shop.

Re: Home Table Build Question

Like above, the premium 1" foam from YAT is what I used and is awesome.

And if you haven't built your playing surface yet......go with nylon velvet speed cloth. It is leagues better than that suited speed cloth sandpaper crap.

Re: Home Table Build Question

I would have to disagree with the nylon velvet speed cloth. It's not waterproof and cards don't slide as well as on suited speed cloth or gaming suede. Gaming suede's the best IMO. Waterproof, cards slide great and can be custom printed.

For rail foam, as others have mentioned, 1" thick heavy duty 65lb is ideal.

Yes, gaming suede is definitely the best. I contemplated going that route but the cost is very high and being my first table build I was worried about not getting the print centered or screwing something else up.

Nylon velvet speed cloth does take some getting used to pitching cards because it does have a small nap to one side that grabs cards. But the feel is much closer to gaming suede than suited cloth.

Before I bought the nylon velvet I had installed some suited speed cloth and immediately tore all the staples out. That stuff is horrid and so rough on the finger tips. Cards glide great and if you have a lot of people constantly spilling drinks on your table then I guess go that route but I hated it.
