I have this slight unlucky run at casinos where I cannot seem to play so well with the amount of donks that play there. I just get a little upset how so many players go just to play because they have money to blow. The Micco and Magic City is Miami is a HUGE example. Look it up and you'll see what I mean.

Anyways, because of all that bitching....I have grinded out the home games a lot and have done very well with the very unskilled players who sit down...which I like to call calling stations and who are usually very easy to trap. I would start hustling as much home games as possible and my question is this: is this something that is healthy for me to just continue and not go to the casino? Any pro and cons?

House games are harder to find and require more patience with regulations. Casinos offer higher stakes and provide financial security. Decision is based on long term goals; is objective to play casually, professionally, or improve? Atmosphere and absence of rake makes traditional games best for casual players. Stability makes Brick & Mortars practical to professionals. Either setting is acceptable to improving players, but I favor home games. Stakes are lower and danger is higher but neither outweighs advantages of equal playing fields.

The thing about playing at the casino that i'm in favor, is that the stakes are much more higher and that they are it more access than home games which you mentioned....but I think you should really have a BR before ever going to the casino. MAJORITY of the players at the casino go with just one complete buy in from a paycheck from work that they can afford which is a big complete no. I have seen and know many players go home broke and cannot afford to go back until the next paycheck. I say, stick the home games with lower buy ins which you can easily afford 3 to 5 buy ins and just do that till you finish school or w.e you're trying to complete. I also think that home game players are much more dangerous with lower buy ins, so if you're much of a feel of the player, practicing your calling tells would be perfect. I would also try to make as much friends as possible at these home games to include more home games to your schedule. Soon enough, you might find daily home games at your disposal and increase your BR very easily.

Apple: I used to regular all the SoFL tracks/casinos down here (1/2, 2/5). I just got married though, so I'm looking for some possible home games to hit up. It's difficult to leave her at home while I go play cards. She doesn't mind watching and I know Gulfstream does offer that option, but I feel guilty if she just sits behind me for hours on end. Is there some home games you know of that I could visit/frequent with you perhaps? This way if she comes along, she can relax and watch TV or something... Yeah I know this is sort of a weird request, but I'm having withdrawals lol. I think the games you play at are around my level/stakes.

haha! Yeah, look at my join date (2004). I haven't visited 2+2 regularly in a long time. Got bored in a training class today though. Mr. Scott is beatable though his azz always gets lucky on me. Horrible. I would totally play but I'm residing in Miami, FL now. The casinos down here are so sick. The action is unbelievable (especially at the $2/5). Come visit/try when you get some time.

I'll be visiting Gainesville next weekend for a few days due to the holidays. Have a game or make Mr. Scott have one in my honor. I'll be there.

You two guys from Florida as well? Sweet =) I reside near the kendall campus of Miami Dade...so now I'm pretty sure everyone knows where I am. I will shoot you an email later Sush and I have a some home games I wouldn't mind you trying out....but mind you, they are total fish and really annoying. Just my second losing session in two months and both were just completely brutal and not fun at all.

Lol, play with a wide diversity. Mostly college students but a healthy amount of older degenerates as well.

OP, are you saying you lose to bad players, and you have better success playing against good players? I thought poker was a game of skill.

I enjoy both, but I prefer home games for several reasons: better social atmosphere, higher winrates, no rake, and less meaningful stakes. That said, I've had a difficult time finding games in my area and recruiting new players for my games - I think that's the toughest aspect of home poker for me.

It is tough to find new players, but it shouldn't be. A survey showed that 16% of adult Americans played poker last year.

So O-town is a difficult arena for home games? I remember going to a few crazy regular 2/5s (near downtown Orlando area) when I lived there, but that was years ago. Interesting, considering the closest location for live is Daytona or Tampa. Both are about an hour + commute each way.

i think that in casinos you have more fish plus it is all legal. Of course, I hate the rake 5+2 in Colorado.
If I could find some good home game I would love to join it but it is quite difficult.
