I am going to try this game with the weekly poker game group.

One question, what is the consensus on how long each of the special chips should stay in play?

Should some (or all of them) stick around after the rebuy period?

I imagine keeping some of them in play will impede the ability to have any serious poker.

I was thinking of just extending the rebuy period to the first 2.5 hrs (versus 2 hours).

One other question on this game. Do the special chips go back i the bag after they have been used?

Thanks,
Grant

We let players keep the omaha/1 card peak (can't think of the name right now) after the break. Most got used prior, but a some stayed in play for a bit and while they made a difference it was still in the same spirit of the tournament so no one minded.

Honestly the 2 was plenty for rebuys I can't imagine another level.

Special chips got taken out of play once pulled or used.

we also had a santa rule that never happened (red king on the river gets a sixth street)

DAMN YOU SANTA FOR NEVER COMING

That is hard to believe. We had the sixth card dealt four or five times in a 3 hour tourney.

Yeah we played 4-5 hours and it never showed up. Even during the PLO game later it only happened twice (didn't play at that point, but we were counting just to see).

OK, but don't blame Santa!

This game was a lot of fun. Ended up having 11 people and decided to keep it to one player. I ended up doing very well early and the prospect of pulling the "gift exchange" chip or having the person on the right pull the chip added some excitement. In the end I avoided it and ended up winning. After the rebuy period (we ran for 2 hrs 15 minutes with rebuys) the bad chips (gift exchange, bah humbug, etc) were converted to free chips. I think we'll likely do it again next year, but I think I'd up the buy in from $5 to $10. A lot of poker for a $90 first place pot (we ran 5.5 hours).

A couple points to clarify though..

With the "Christmas in Omaha", do you allow the person to use all 4 cards? The descriptions says they can use any combo of 4, but omaha restricts you to 2. Since the description didn't specify we allowed the use of all 4.

For the "I saw Santa", were the cards exposed to everyone or just the holder of the chip? We went with the holder of the chip (we slid the card chosen to the player with the chip to peak and then slid back). This makes a big difference as it can be an advantage for only the player with the chip or everyone in the hand. Of note, I ended up with 2 of these chips at one point and could have potentially seen both of my opponents cards (although I only needed to use one at a time to win both hands when used).

Thanks,
Grant

For the omaha chips we used all 4 that cold play. Made it a bit more exciting. The saw Santa chip we had the player turn it face up for the table.

Yeah, this is what makes the Omaha chip so powerful. It's not even Omaha, but some sort of stone-cold North Pole game. If someone had that, and could play it on any street, you did not know what he had or could have if he used it.

Holiday's are approaching quickly and I've been asked numerous times already if the Christmas tournament will be running....

Group buy on ceramics before it's too late?

Sure. I'll have to touch it up and convert to the Chipco CMYK palette, and I'll have to do something up for a common back image (in case people want to put these face-down on the table instead of in a bag), but that shouldn't take too long. The main question for Joe is the minimum number of sets he'll run for us.

30 chips per set (3 each of 10 different chips), so $6 per set plus shipping if we get that .20/chip price.

I don't mind coordinating things, and if Joe is on board, I can cross-post the GB on PCF (Poker Chip Forum) to get more folks on board. I'm not sure how quickly this can happen, but we'll give it a go.

Okay, I'd take 2 sets, then. If we need more to order, I might for for 3.

For anyone new to this format, I've held it twice, and it was a huge hit.

I'll take two sets, please. Probably won't ever use them but that's never stopped me from buying chips before.

I'm around, just haven't had a chance to follow up with Joe and dig out my old artwork yet. I will try to get on this tomorrow and let you know what I find out.
