Swapping stacks is 50/50 although if you have someone with a much bigger stack on your left it is a major incentive to try and get a present. Obviously the 1 card deal would suck. However, the all in one depends on if your at a table that will call light. Whatever the case it will be fun (probably me though) get stuck playing with one card for a while and trying to win a hand.

Re: Holiday Game Ideas

Now I am considering having three chips in the bag which allow the recipient to select an envelope with a lottery ticket in it...

The only exception to that is all in pots that you lose as your cards would already be exposed. Mandatory or no? I'm thinking since they are now exposed that it should be mandatory.

Also just noticed that instead of betting I wrote begging.......
I like the idea of giving the loser at showdown a present. So I think that's what I'll do. The rule will be "any hand exposed at showdown must choose a present." This means:
  1. Showdown winners always take a present.
  2. All-in losers always take a present (this explains some of the "I have a present but no chips" rules that I eliminated because they didn't make sense).
  3. Losers at showdown that aren't all-in have the option to show their hand and take a present.

2) If you bust out, but win a present, the present you've drawn is applied after you re-buy. If you choose not to re-buy, you don't pull a present. If it is after the rebuy period and you bust out you are still in the game with the one chip you pull from the bag as a "Last Minute X-Mas Gift"
What if the rebuy period is over, you go all-in and lose with a red king, and you pull a special chip? How will that work? You have no chips to play with.

The special chips convert over to T chips at the break so they will be able to pull out something to get them back in. Might not be much, but of know the saying, chip and a chair.

OK, your instructions say only the red, white and blue chips convert.

Quote:
3) During the first break the red, white, & blue chips will be removed from the bags and replaced with a T5000 chip.
It should read "all special chips will be removed."

Re: Holiday Game Ideas

Hmmm, maybe you meant rule 3 to apply to special chips that players have in front of them. Don't you need to state that all special chips pulled after the break have some value?

I thought I had all of them covered since some are covered in the description of the chip. I just need to finish the last two or include them in rule #3. Thanks!

I think I'll just say that any chip not covered in the rules is good for an add-on of some value after the rebuy period is over.

Re: Holiday Game Ideas

So I'm looking at all of this, and now realize I don't have enough chips. Never thought I'd need the 5Ks, but there you go.

At any rate, I guess I'll dial everything back. 4K stacks and 4K add-ons. And still I may need to use some non-denominated chips as 5Ks.

How do you estimate how long one of these will last?

Use blind valet as it allows for rebuys/add-ons. I'm hoping this will go between 4-5 hours. I modified the starting stacks and blinds from the original game to meet my chip set. I believe the original game was at 1k starting and 25/25 blinds.

Re: Holiday Game Ideas

The challenge is estimating the amount of add-ons and rebuys generated by the special chips. I have no clue how to figure that one out.

I guessed at one of each per person. I figure some won't need them and others like me might need 10.

I'm talking about the special chips, which require a showdown with a red king, or your A or deuce. I don't think that is so player dependent. How did you estimate the number of those?

Maybe I'm actually asking some math expert on here...

Time to put up your Schmendr1ck bat sign

That's as far as I wanted to go with the math as even this reminds me of why I don't run tournaments. lolz..

He clearly needs a more obvious sign as evidence by the lack of work posted today.

I don't own Photoshop. Googled "George Costanza bat signal." I'm done.

Re: Holiday Game Ideas

Sorry guys, been AWOL for the past few days.

My $10 NLHE group is going to do this with $3 buy-in/rebuys and $5 add-on. So I expect there to be a LOT of rebuys. For each 10-player table, I'm conservatively estimating the following:

10 x 5K for initial buy-ins
25 x 5K for rebuys
10 x 5K for add-ons (everybody's gonna do it)

You'll also need the following per table for the Bag of Presents:

3 x T500
3 x T1000
12 x T5000 (3 go straight in, up to 9 needed to replace red, white and blue chips when removed after the rebuy period ends).

I should be able to handle two tables if my estimates are valid. If not, I'll have to come up with a 5K chip substitute.

I am not going to replace the special chips, just say they exchangeable for 5k after the break.

Re: Holiday Game Ideas

I realized this weekend that I don't have enough colors of similar blank chips to set up the bags of presents for Tuesday's tourney. I could mix sets, but that would allow an observant player to possibly identify chips by feel. So I'm improvising - I bought some paper labels from the office supplies store, and I'm going to label a bunch of leftover roulette Paulsons that were removed from my Empress cash set as the worst of the worst.

It won't be ideal; they're 1.5" round labels and will go all the way to the edge of the chip instead of sitting in the 1" inlay. However, they'll be functional for the event, and should just peel right off when we're done.

Pics to come...

I realized the same thing a few weeks ago. I talked to Joe at PGI and got a bunch of random blank chips from him for basically the cost of shipping. You could throw him and email and see what he could do as he is in FL it might get to you in time.

Re: Holiday Game Ideas

I only have one table of 10 for tonight's Santa Gone Wild tournament. I think I have enough odd chips to make it work. The chips are from different sets, all similar in feel, with a few subtle differences. But each style of chip is represented in almost every color. For example, if you felt a difference it could be just about any color anway. And I am not going to show the chips before we start, so there will be no pre-game chip analysis.

Printed 60 labels tonight and stickered two sets of chips for Tuesday's game. If this goes well (and I think it will), these will be custom ceramics next year.
