Lol I laughed out loud when I read snacks. From experience we usually play Sit N Go's with 3 getting 20 percent, 2 getting 30 percent and 1st getting 5o percent. Cash is harder because of chips but I wouldn't play for more then 20$. I reached my 10k profit online yesturday but never win in home games because none of my friends are any good and suck out with 69 suited everytime so don't play with too much money are ppl will get angry. Trust me I have seen some solid arguments over poker while drunk in home games. Tips:

- have chips set up before they get there
-set up table if you have one
- turn off the ****ing tv or watch something melo ppl don't get distracted by and causes them to take 3 mins every time they get cards.
- grab a 24 and chill it before hand
- another here's a big one...make sure everyone brings enough money for 3 games. No one plays 1 game and quits ever unless they win. Believe me, ppl will show up and say 'ooo I have 5$ on me' tell them to gtfo. You will never get the money and it is beyond annoying. Also, no dimes and quarters, get some bills no one wants to win and take 200 dimes

^ I agree with all those points there.

Depending on how much the buy in is, and if you're doing rebuys or not, splitting the pot might not always be what people want to do. Usually when it comes down to 3 people, I would just suggest for them to propose a chop of some sort. If not all of them can agree, then have them play through it and maybe when its heads up, they will want to chop it.

I'm throwing a poker game this Saturday, and I'm going to do a Sit N' Go' style, with a $20 buy in and rebuys for $20 up until the first break and color up of $25 chips. Go to www.homepokertourney.com to find out what type of tournament you want to go with, it's a great site for this type of thing.

I'm actually going to set up a nacho bar sort of deal for food and I'm just telling peeps to bring their own drinks. I'll buy a 12 pack and knock down a few before people get there. I'm setting up 2 tables and will have all the chips on the table with the chairs set up before people get there to speed things up. I'd also suggest using your cell phone or even laptop on a timer to have for the blind levels. You can download free tournament clocks for your laptop/pc, just goggle "free tournament poker clocks" and you should see some options.

I wouldn't suggest having the TV on, I would prefer music, so people are not distracted and watching TV during the game. Of course you can have it mute or something, I'll probably have Sportscenter on mute with music from my Bose system playing in the background.

Does anyone even read the OP? What if he/she is not interested in running a SnG?

NiomNiom, I would suggest using the search function. There have been lots of threads about how to run a game.

Try this thread, lots of good info:

http://forumserver.twoplustwo.com/24...t-game-708252/

For some general advice:
- make sure you have a good space to play in
- have some sort of playing surface (can vary from a professional style table to a table topper to felt that you lay out over your kitchen table.)
- have a nice set of cards (copaq, kem, modiano, etc.)
- have plenty of chips
- if you desire, you can provide drinks and snacks or players can bring their own. Whatever you are comfortable with.
- make sure you are playing stakes that your group is comfortable with

Basically, I would start with looking in the FAQ thread. There is advice lots of good advice to get you started.

The site I referenced has examples of how to distribute chips if he wanted to do a cash game.

You might want to come up with a set of rules and make sure people are aware of them (maybe print out Robert's Rules of Poker). If they are beginners you don't have to be a major stickler, but you should at least have something for the rules you would like to follow. Hopefully you will avoid big arguments.

Try to make sure everyone knows that they should act in turn, and not talk about other people's hands. In my experience, with beginners (and maybe you aren't playing with beginners) in home games, this is really hard to enforce. So I wouldn't be a hardass about it, but if you bring it up at the beginning you will get fewer arguments later.

I guess that works for a SNG, but OP wants a cash game.

Heh, okay, 10K profit online but afraid to put up more than $20 live. Interesting bankroll management.

*scratching head*

Ummmmmmmm, huh? So where'd your alleged 10K come from? Good players who select solid openers and fold when they're behind? I feel like there's a fundamental misunderstanding of poker skill versus profit happening here.

"Too much money" is relative to what people are comfortable playing with. You have to take into consideration how much money people have and what they're willing to gamble with.

"Drunk" is the key word here. People can act stupid when they're drunk. Nothing wrong with providing some drinks for your game, but don't encourage people to get people wasted. Not only does it increase the chances of a stupid fight, but it slows the game down and makes frustrating errors more likely.

Kinda vague, but agreed.

Sure, I guess, if you have a drinking crowd and they like beer. See the warning about drunkenness above, though.

I mean, this stuff is true, but who are you playing home games with that these things are even likely issues? I think the major lesson from this is not to invite broke/clueless people to play cards for money.

Definitely don't lend money, though, especially to a new crowd. It's one thing to float an occasional short-term loan to a long-term friend who's been playing with you for 5+ years, but don't get suckered into becoming a payday lender at your first game.
