I'm back home for the week. Have been invited to a dealer's choice home game with my dad and his friends tonight. They play $20 buy-in. Will be very lol. They also play with 1 joker, so 53-card deck.

My dad tells me one variant they play Omaha, but get 5 cards in hand and can use any mix of hand + board cards you see fit. Also Fiery Cross is in there.

Don't care about winning, just want to have some fun. What are some fun, easy to play variants I can mix in?

Seven Card Socialism.

It is seven card stud with an interesting variation.

Once the first two cards are dealt, and the third card for UTG is exposed, the next player can take (1) the next card from the deck, (2) an up card from any specified player, or (3) any down card from any specified player.

If UTG takes a card from any player, the player whose card is taken gets a replacement from the deck - up if an up card was taken, or down if a down card was taken.

Once the replacement card - if needed - is dealt, the next player has the same option.

And so on until the "round of the third card" is completed.

And betting commences.

There are four variants of Seven Card Socialism.

Republican Socialism: Each player can only take a card from the player on his Right Wing (to the immediate right only).

Democratic Socialism: Each player can only take a card from the player on his Left Wing (to the immediate left only)

Universal Socialism: Each player can take a card from ANY other player in any position.

Medicare Socialism: A card off the deck is free, but a player pays a stipulated fee (maybe half a bet or a full bet) to take a card from another player (left, right, or any position, depending on which primary Socialism you are playing.

Otherwise it is "just" seven card stud.

Enjoy!

Then, there is Twisted Texas Holdem.

Once the flop is out, each player in turn can elect to pay a bet, and thereby buy the right to take any board card off the board, to be replaced by a card from the deck.

Flop betting occurs after each player has elected whether or not to "twist" a board card, and if they did elect, all such board cards are replaced in order.

Once the turn is out, same thing.

Then the turn betting commences.

Once the river is out, same thing.

Then the river betting commences.

Otherwise, it is "just" Texas Hold-em.

(This should obviously be played limit, and should NOT be played NLHE.)

Thank me later.

You get dealt 2 cards and if you elect to take a board card do you discard one of your hole cards?

Is this meant to be the third card for all players are exposed? Utg or utg+1 can't take an open card from anyone else if no one else's is exposed yet

In the holdem "twist" game...

When you "twist" a board card it gets mucked, and replaced from the deck.

Your hole cards are not changed.

Sorry that wasn't very clear in my first explanation.

UTG can't take an open card from anyone on third street, because there are no other open cards yet.

That is correct.

But UTG+1 could take the open card from UTG if desired (in the "Right" version).

And either of them could take an unseen hole card from whoever they wanted to - not very strategic on third street but very strategic if you don't like someone's board cards on sixth street.

Gotta play these and get a feel for how unpredictable it is.
