Hi, I'm going to be building a custom built folding table topper for my home games. The reason it has to be folding is that it has to be portable and easily stored. What do you guys currently play on in your home games as all I see around are the cheap and nasty Chinese import tables that deteriorate so quickly. I would like to post progress pics etc of the build would that be ok to do as I don't want to infringe on any posting rules. Cheers

Sounds cool, mang. We used to have a thread on table builds, but I guess it got archived in the last update.

I had plans for a folding top as I wanted it portable like you, but I can't seem to find it.

I mostly built a permanent table for my friend. I did all the woodwork, he upholstered it.

Please post pics. I would like to see how you are building it.

Well sadly it doesn't look like I'll be building the folding table top now as the material costs for building it are rediculously high. Costing over £200 for the materials alone! I just picked up a folding topper from gumtree for £50 shame as I was looking forward to building it aswell.

That's too bad. Building it is such a good experience, plus it will be exactly how you want it. It's not a stretch to think that it's more cost effective as well. That placemat won't look very nice after even 10 game nights, ime. Real lumber, brass hinges, and good upholstery would easily last 4 times as long. Plus, you'd be more eager to organize games if you were playing on a table you're proud of.

While in college after Moneymaker won ME in 2003, I built a super cheap topper out of a doubled up sheet of 1/4" plywood with a green automotive headliner glued and stapled to it. Worked slick for us for many years. The headliner is padded unlike those crappy felt toppers.
