When it comes to my game, I have the table, cards, chips, and other poker gear down pat. The one area where I've always been lacking, however, is chairs. I've always ended up working with a miscellaneous assortment of chairs. I've also found that there does not seem to be such a thing as a very good chair that is also cheap. What do y'all use and/or recommend?

I can't locate them online, but my current preferred chair is a plastic folding chair I found at Home Depot in the $20–30 range (don't recall the exact price). It's on the larger side, it's flexible, and it has a sort of "meshy" texture that seems better for long periods of sitting than a chair that is all solid pieces. I only have two of these, though. The rest of my chairs are not as nice. I may replace them someday, but I can only even transport two of the Home Depot chairs in my car at a time. It would cost $150-ish and three trips back and forth to replace the whole set.

Finally, is it tacky that I sit in my $100 leather office chair when I play? It's right there next to the table (my desk is nearby), and using it allows me more freedom of motion to deal with buy-ins and such. It's also obviously more comfortable than a folding chair. On the one hand, everyone else is sitting in folding chairs, so why should I get better? On the other hand, this more comfortable, more utile chair is available, so why shouldn't someone use it? And if someone is going to use it, why not the guy who personally spent $100 on it? No one has ever said anything about it, but I also know that people don't always speak up.

Check out Vol of America, Salvation Army, Goodwill Industry stores. They have furniture and appliance sections. Once in a while you may find something usable for not much money. It certainly is hit and miss, but if you luck out it would be worth it.

I just use the cheap folding chairs . . . when I can manage to acquire space for a dedicated poker room, then I will worry about upgrading the chairs. Not before.

I went through a similar sweat a few years ago. I had the standard mish-mash of a few decent padded chairs, some metal folding chairs, and some odd ball wood chairs. It got to the point where players were almost fighting over who got the good chairs, and was a huge PITA. I needed some decent matching chairs at the lowest possible price point.

I got 16 of them at $15 a pop. I don't remember how much shipping was, but it was reasonable, and I believe I got them all shipped for under $300. I had them shipped to a store one of my players managed, since shipping to a commercial address was way cheaper than a residential address.

In order to come up with the $300, I just put out a tip jar, printed out a bar graph from $0-300, let everyone know where the money would be going and how it was in their interest to throw in some cash, and waited about 6 weeks for it to fill up.

And to your last question, no, it is not tacky in the least. Your the host, you get first pick of chairs. I also have a nice swivel office chair in my spot, because I'm the one who has to get up every so often to handle rebuys, cashouts, etc.. It's way easier to spin around and roll back than to stand up and slide, and since I do it 30-40 times a night, it was worth the $60.

i got my folding chairs from bj's warehouse. they work well and fairly comfortable.

I got really lucky with mine a year ago at home depot. were 50% off and got each one of these for 20 bucks.

Dug, I like your link, and thought of chairs like that after posting. You can usually find sets of those being sold off by banquet facilities when they redecorate for even less than you paid. Office overstock sales are another outlet for good buys on good chairs.

I keep them out all the time, but they can easily be stacked 10 high for storage if needed. The seat cushions are about 3" and people have no complaints sitting for hours on them.

Restaurant supply and second-hand furniture stores are also good places to look. No luck there in my area, but I live in the middle of nowhere.

I bought some Samsonite folding chairs from Lowe's that are surprisingly comfortable. They are hard plastic, but are also wide and molded. I think they were about $20 each, but it has been a few years.

A new host in our group found four padded folding chairs at a yard sale for $30 that are great. So you don't have to spend a lot.

We have a set of Folding Chairs very similar to these.

I'm a big guy and these things are sturdy and actually pretty comfortable too. I think if you scrounge around the internet hard enough you can probably even find them in a few different colors.

I have church chairs. They are not the cheapest, but not the most expensive. I get a lot of compliments on these chairs. Comfortable and they look good! I like them because they don't have the exposed metal on your back like banquet chairs. $31.99 on this website:

I have these chairs (or something very similar) for my game. I didn't order mine online though. An Eagles group in my town closed their doors and everything was for sale. Everything from pool tables to tap handles was on sale. I picked up 30 chairs for about $5 each.

I know I was lucky in my find, but look everywhere; you never know what you'll find. Good luck in your search!

I'm getting the feeling that part of my problem here is that space doesn't allow for banquet chairs.

I'll be keeping an eye on Craigslist and any yard sales I come across, though, just in case good folding chairs peek out at me. The lesson across most of these posts seems to be, "Go with used."

This hutch or cupboard or whatever you call it is glorious. This is the other piece of "gaming furniture" I want to get, when I have chairs handled and space isn't such an issue. I have so many chips, cards, books, and other gaming equipment that I really need a dedicated means of storing it (and hopefully displaying some of it too).

What you have here would be absolutely perfect, if I had anywhere near the room for it. As it is, I don't think I could even manage it vertically, never mind horizontally.

Of course, once I get it, thus begins the quest to "fill in the empty spaces," to which I would happily oblige.

Get up early of a Saturday and make the rounds at yard sales. Spring is the best time of year for this, it seems. Yard sales are also listed on Craiglist, or of course you might find them listed separately.

What is the space issue? Storage during non-poker times?

A matching set of stackable banquet chairs doesn't take up any more space than folding chairs; actually, they probably take up less, since the pile grows vertically rather than horizontally the more chairs you add. A dozen banquet chairs takes up as much square footage of floor space as one.

I've had a dozen different types of folding chairs, and none were near as comfortable as my cheap banquet chairs.

+1 to buying used, but -2 to actually finding them. Usually a right place, right time sort of deal.

My folding chairs get stuffed into a closet that is used for miscellaneous storage. On top of limited floor space, a major part of the problem is that my floor-to-ceiling space is short—so short, in fact, that I can casually reach up and touch the ceiling in any part of my apartment. (I'm 6 feet tall, so it's not like a hobbit-house or anything, but it's still pretty dang short.)

Thanks... This is the one major thing we did when we bought this house is hire a guy to build this wall of cabinets. I think they built this as their 'exercise room' as it was 16x16 with no windows or closets or features besides a ceiling fan. But it makes the perfect game room now, with storage mostly occupied by strategy games.. One of the drawers however is dedicated to poker supplies.

For compatibility and comfortability i just use folding chairs which can be moulded and easy to carry.

I second the site Dug posted. I got mine from the same place, and they do folding chairs as well. Of course, I had the added benefit of avoiding shipping because they're local.

I make a habit of looking for chairs at garage sales and thrift shops. I have found a few nice chairs and a bunch of folding chairs. My goal is to get enough nicer chairs for my regular cash game. all of the extra folding chairs are for the occasional tournament. If you don't mind scouring different stores and garage sales and if you don't mind miss-matched furniture this is the cheapest way to go.

I also have a nice swivel office chair that is much better than the other seats. perk of hosting. I don't feel bad at all.
