Do you ever take a weapon to home games? Do you ever take a weapon to home games?

If so what kind?

I always carry a blade in the back pocket and keep a Glock model 22 in the car with the clip loaded.

I guess it depends what kind of neighborhood you are playing in and how well you know the people you are playing with

Never, all the home games I play in are with people who I have known for a couple years. And if anyone pulled anything, they would have 8-10 of us on them

Oh noes, not the glock!

The only weapons I need are a few buyins and my rapier wit!

If the neighborhood and/or the players make me uncomfortable enough that I think I might need a weapon, I don't play in the game.

What would you do if you came across someone who kept their Glock in their back pocket and their blade in the car?

The game I play in one of the seediest neighborhoods in town has a strict "no guns" policy. It's more to protect us against ourselves. The players in the game mostly carry big knives and can handle any trouble that comes sniffing.

Poker's an emotional game, and while most gun owners are responsible, it's still something that could go very wrong. What if you get drunk, then someone who's not you snags it from your ankle holster? It's hard to undo that one quick mistake with a gun, and I wouldn't feel like a responsible host if I allowed it in my game.

To repeat: The people I know who love guns and play in the crappiest part of town DO NOT want guns at the game.

Guns just get people shot. I'd rather give up my $700-$800 rather than shoot someone.

LOL, i love posts like this (any thread that asks whether he/she should bring weapons to home game) and the answers are generally hilarious.

"those who live by the gun, die by the gun"

Typical poker player IMO

Guns don't kill people. I kill people. With guns. Joe Lejoie

This thread's hilarious. Where I live in uk people don't even dreeeeeeeeeam of even getting a tiny bit irate, we're all busy laughing our heads off and having fun. Anyone emotionally unbalanced wouldn't even be in our circle of friends.

Strange. If someone's robbing me, I'd rather keep my $700-800, shoot them, and make sure they're either dead or getting locked up somewhere that they're not going to be robbing anyone else.

I'd gladly pay $800 if the alternative was killing someone. I can replace the money, but taking a life is heavy stuff. I don't want those scars.

Would packing a glock be worth the karma/conscience +EV you could get from shooting the scumbag in the leg and calling the cops? You don't have to kill him to avoid losing your monies or stop him from robbing again.

I am not a self-appointed arbiter of justice.

You really think my desire not to take a human life is just so I can score a few conscience "EV points"? That's a rather disturbing line of thought.

This isn't the movies. There is no such thing as using deadly force with the intent to wound. If you are going to pull the trigger on a gun for defense, you are doing so because you are stopping a violent Felony in progress. You shoot for center of mass. You do not assume that because you put a round into someone's leg that you have ended the threat. If you make the decision to use your weapon you'd better be prepared to have your life change forever - along with the life of the other individual.

I carry legally, educated, and responsibly.

if you are not justified in shooting to kill you are not justified in shooting, period.

Super nice post. This needs to be quoted anytime this topic comes up.

* Also, what do you carry, and why do you feel the need to do so? I've never felt the slightest need to have a firearm on me and don't understand why anyone else would. You seem very level headed about the topic, I'd value your thoughts.

Generally when I carry, I carry a small very reliable and very concealable Seecamp. Pretty popular weapon with Law Enforcement types as a "back up" weapon. Great for an ankle holster. It is for emergencies only - Useless from any sort of long range. As a .32 caliber, most carry advocates feel that it is a little too small for a primary carry weapon, but I am comfortable with it because it "acts" like a bigger weapon and is known for reliability.

I originally got my permit because I was handling and delivering weapons related to a gun dealer. It also facilitated the process of bringing a weapon out of the house to the range.

My philosophy of carrying a weapon isn't based on fear. It is based on the concept that it is a tool that if I ever do need it, I am going to be glad I have it. Sort of like the Jack in my car. I don't carry a jack only when I am on roads that make a flat more likely. And I don't seek out dangerous roads just because I have one. I don't feel stronger and more macho because I have a jack. I don't take it out and show my friends what a nice jack I own. And I don't use my jack on tires that don't need attention. I've only had to use my jack several times in my life and sincerely hope I never need to use it again. But I'd still feel uncomfortable driving a vehicle without one.

People who I know who carry responsibly do so as a lifestyle. They carry when they go out to fill up their car, head to the store, or yes, attend a Home Game. Even if each of these activities take place in "safe" environments.

One thing related to the Home Game scenario - it can be considered poor etiquette to bring a gun into another man's house without his permission.

Also, when it comes to alcohol, I personally have a zero tolerance policy with even handling, much less carrying a weapon. It gets unloaded and safely locked away BEFORE the first drink.

This is definitely coming from someone who has no idea what they are talking about. Some of us love guns. Some of us carry every single day everywhere we go. And those of us who train with them and respect them know that it is a last resort to shoot someone. I would gladly give up my bank roll in order to keep from shooting someone. I train with a man who had to defend his life and was justified in taking a life. It still weighs heavy on him every day.

I own several firearms, and although I'm pro gun, I can't think of any good reason to carry a pistol other than to shoot someone.

Sorry, but no amount of education or training will ever make me believe that a handgun is good for anything else.

There are a lot of gun laws I disagree with here in Canada, but the anti handgun law is one I do believe. If someone carries a handgun, regardless of what they have convinced themselves of the reason, the sole purpose is to shoot another person.

To answer the OP, no, if I felt I needed a weapon of ANY kind, I would avoid the game at all costs.
