Chad said holdem ought to have a 2 card flop, a 2 card turn, and a 1 card river. This intrigued me. Has anyone ever tried this variant?

In this variant it would be impossible to flop a nut hand other than quads, and it would be harder to flop a four card draw. It seems like BPPs and flopped TPTK/2P/trips would be significantly stronger hands in this game, since they are much more likely to be the nuts right now after the flop. I'm not doing the math, but my gut says that playing draws would be more expensive and more -EV in this game unless stack sizes are large enough.

I did some looking around and found some stuff on "2-11 Poker," which apparently has gained some traction at the Bike (http://www.thebike.com/la-poker/211-poker.html).

It's basically O8 with a two-card flop. Players must use at least two and no more than three cards from their hand to combine with the board. This would open the possibility of flopping a nut hand other than quads and would give draws a little more incentive to stick around.

Yeah, we played Omaha 2-11 at HPI. I liked it, especially since I flopped a set of kings in the first couple of hands and won a large pot.

Don't think that's true, draws will be alot stronger on the flop, simply because there are more cards to come (also you will not flop a strong draw quite as often). 89 on 76r is a monster while A7 on 76r is not such a strong hand, board can develop in many ways still.

Schmendr1ck or eneely, in light of this conversation, might it ever be (or has it ever been) considered for HP to have a poker variant containment/sticky that could provide easy access to hosts or players looking for some fun ideas on new games to introduce to their crowd?

We see some talk of variants in the Open Thread from time-to-time, and we certainly got our fair share of Gay Buttsex in the HPI thread. But I was just wondering if it might be beneficial to house creative variants somewhere central.

For example, at the last game I attended at JZ's, there was talk of a new variant and then name ideas were tossed around (I think it became "Tulsa"). We could've posted about it in the Open Thread, but if someone came lurking around in a couple of months, they might never learn the game.

Just a thought. Trying to actually be useful around these parts. What say you?

There are pros and cons to that. A containment thread puts all the stuff together, which is good, but it can be harder to keep track of what post is referencing what. Things become more chaotic. Also, I believe it might stifle participation. I know the raked sticky is pretty quiet. Not sure why.

But what happens sometimes, a new thread is started, there are four or five responses without quotes, and then I merge it into the containment thread.

Super Hold'em is now called Oklahoma. I know there is another game called that but it is a 5CS variant so no one will ever know the difference.

Top Pair hands are now more vulerable on the flop because there are 3 cards to come instad of 2.

It's also more difficult to flop a draw on the flop as others have said which means speculative hands like SC's and Axs are less profitable to play. Set mining also just got more expensive so you need better odds.

Overall, I would say the nits who wait for premiums just got a better game.
