The topic came up last night, since apparently there was a raid on some underground card room in our area. If, for strange reason, our home game was raided and the money was confiscated, who is responsible (if anyone) for repaying the players?

Just some extra info: My buddy and I run a $0.25-$0.50 game every Saturday, no rake, byob, and I tend to provide liquor for those that want it. We're playing at my buddy's place, but the table and chips our mine. I deal with cash-ins/cashouts and handle all the money since their my chips. We play uncapped, so there's usually $1,400.00+ on the table.

By the way, I realize it's a little far fetched that anything should ever happen, but I'd like to know what you guys think standard etiquette should dictate.

Ugh. I don't know if there is "standard" etiquette on this topic, because I'm not sure it happens THAT often.

Fellow hosts, in TX, NC and other such silly states..... what's the word on this?

To some extent, I think it falls on a group loss, rather than an individual's loss. The game is most likely to end, anyway, after that... so if the host is setting up a scam, it's only going to work once.

also asdf- the last choice: if there wasn't a rake, but it was NOT a home game... meaning, B&M?

I couldn't figure out why you specified "no rake, AND it's a home game". Do you often see games that are unraked, that are NOT home games?

Gotcha. I just wanted to specify that we don't take a dime, nothing, nada. No tip jar or anything of the like, which I suppose happens in a lot of home games (not that there's anything wrong with that )

Meh, you might be on a 12.1" subnotebook or something, where the person's identity isn't exactly clear.

My feeling is that no is responsible unless there is a person who caused it to happen . . .

lets face it. If a home game gets busted its probably because of something other than just a friendly poker game.

Maybe some ******* you invited has been leaving the game and pissing on your neighbors lawn, or somebody got into a loud fight and cause dthe neighbors to call the police. Your your stupid host put flyers up in the supermarket...... then the people who caused this to happen should take responsibilty to make the others whole again.

If it is a raked game = yes! especially if the host ever plans on running another raked game

if it is not raked = no! The host was nice enough to let all his drunken goon friends come over to dirty up his house and play poker until sunrise. The loss is shared by the group.

I was all ready to click (b) and say the "house" was under obligation to pay back the guests, but as I finished reading the details, even I went with (c).

In this particular case, there was no house. If someone were profiting from a game like this -- then accepting that sort of loss would be part of their obligation (unless somehow specifically the topic were identified and everyone agreed to hold them not responsible, blah blah).

Mainly, it would be on them for being too cheap, or too stupid, not to protect the game properly.
