Where can you buy reasonably priced 4 color decks these days with normal index? Amazon and google are not being very friendly, all I can find is an apparently out of production Copag single deck that will cost me $20 with shipping.

Well I bought two Copag decks for $22 with shipping on Ebay. Seems reasonable though it's odd that there aren't more four color decks available.

Four color decks benefit beginners or people not paying attention. Most people buying decent cards don't like to consider themselves as such.

They also help people with bad vision or if the game is in a dark room.

I think it's more a case of what people are used to. Back when I could play online I always had it set to 4-color. It makes it that much easier to identify.

If cards had always had 4 different colors for the suits, and someone introduced a '2-color' deck where 2 suits were black and 2 were red, I think you'd see just as little adoption of that.

Of course there are some games where the colors come into play, eg Euchre where the other Jack of the same color has significance.

This 100%, imo.

People just don't like change.
