Is this 10/20 home game beatable given the rake? Is this 10/20 home game beatable given the rake?

So I got invited to a home game this upcoming Wednesday and it's 10-20 (3k max buy that only MIGHT increase throughout the night) with 10% rake, capped at $25. If the game turned on a mandatory $40 straddle the rake would be unaffected. If i played, i'd be the best player there and out of 8 players (myself included) 5 of them are very loose and love to see flops. They won't put you in too tough of spots either. It's typical to see 4 limps to 20, my squeeze to 200, then at least 2 calls. The 2 game runners are on the tighter side preflop but not the strongest players either and I have an edge. I am however perceived to play a decent amount of hands (I do so in a casino setting with less rake as I can VPIP say 40% but never get 3! more cause of it). However I do know that more hands played at this rake structure isn't the best either... I happen to know that the shuffling and dealing is legit with very minimal possibility of cheating. I also know all of the players in the game who none of which i'd suspect of ever colluding. Maybe worth noting that there's a professional dealer with food and drinks included. Open to any any and all opinions, thanks so much in advance!

$14 to $18/hr at a casino. $10 to $13/hr at a card room in TX.

Even 10% uncapped is easily beatable if you play with the right players, if you play with a couple GTO wizards OTOH small rake can be unbeatable. That scenario sounds like it's easily beatable. But an elevated rake lowers effective winrates and therefore increases variance. Also almost all players tend to massively overestimate their own edge, just sayin'...

So in AZ time on 10/20+ is $10 every 30 minutes. I know it's significantly cheaper in Texas and with this group we don't play time but instead a $7 drop.

It really is a group of players who all besides two play purely for enjoyment as well as the social aspect of the game. Your point about people overestimating their own skill is completely reasonable and you might be right. However I don't get put in tough spots by any of the players (played with them a bunch) and can snap decide on every street whether facing or making a bet/checking a significant portion of the time. I also realize playing very wide pre, which I like to do with these players, drops my edge a good amount due to the higher rake.

I came to that conclusion as well yet declined as I believed it to be super immoral: the game runners being the nit regs in the game that play for a living charging their "long-time friends" that happen to be retired whales excessive rake when the game runners should already have a big edge. Just too scummy for my liking.

It's basically a 1.25 max bb rake. Relative to the size of the game this is lower than most casinos charge on their 1/2 games. It's lower than what many places charge even on 2/5 games (my home city has $9 max rake on 2/5, the game isn't great, but there's still pros who sit there and beat it.

People may sit there day after day and have winning months or a whole year even but variance does that over samples it doesn’t mean the rake is necessarily beatable

$25 a hand is absolutely obscene and yes disrespectful. Once the whales get sick of just losing and start to play well I don’t see how it’s beatable. How many pots do you win a night? 20 at least? So you pay $500 just to have a seat

Pots will get double raked and money stolen by dealers in every home game ever. There are also mechanics out there and cold decks brought in probably not this game tho. Make your own decisions on how awful the play really is
