Modding Game of Thrones Season 6 discussion thread

Taking all things into consideration(book divergence, etc), what do you propose would be the best way to have a GoT S:6 thread operate?

My initial thinking is:

-everyone welcome at this point, but still no book talk whatsoever
-posts do not need approval
-if you book it up, spoil, or detract you will be banned and asked to not post in thread again.

Thread will need heavy moderation and I will take support modding from any and all mods personally. In the end that is up to killa though.

Please post any recommendations you may have.

Re: Modding Game of Thrones Season 6 discussion thread

Kind of a tough call. While most of the show is ahead of the books now, I am aware that there are a few book plotlines that haven't been dismissed out of the show yet and could possibly still emerge. But it wouldn't be anywhere close to spoiling things like Red Wedding or other key deaths (Joffrey, Tywin, etc).

I say remove the post approving but be strict and harsh on spoiling, as you suggested. It would be like it was right before the approving got implemented.

If more mod help ends up being needed, I'll step up and assist. It's been impossible to stay 100% spoiler free anyway just from Yahoo headlines and such. I didn't step up the past 2 years because I wanted to avoid seeing major spoilers, but I don't sweat the minor stuff.

I'd be OK with open posting as long as we keep the no-booking it up rule.

Re: Modding Game of Thrones Season 6 discussion thread

Every post in every thread in the GoT sub-forum needs mod approval. So, unless Mat Sklansky changes the forum infrastructure, this discussion is moot.

If you want a non-approval thread, just start one in the main OOTV forum. And if that's what everybody wants, this sub-forum can be closed.

Dynasty we're talking about de-approving the subforum, not just a single thread. It wouldn't make any sense to de-approve the main one but keep it for the others. I don't think there's a need to restructure things again, just have Mat change the permissions back.

I can easily change this... So floors open again, in that regard should it stay it's own sub is the question I'd be willing to move the book thread into here or the show thread out and dissolve this place as well.
I never liked how this came about to begin with, be that as it may it served a purpose but I don't think it does anymore.
27 this might be a question for the masses too. Throw up a poll in TV and see what the book and shownwatchers thing. The rest of the book lines are about to be crossed by week 3 imo.

Re: Modding Game of Thrones Season 6 discussion thread

Being in it's own subforum may be useful depending on how easy exile is (i.e. auto-exile anyone who has posted in the bookreader thread, except the known honorable posters), though I suppose the primary spoiler danger was new accounts lately. Is it possible to put "must be registered X days + X posts on being able to post in a specific subforum?

Even if no "security measures" possible, would def like to see a return to open-posting though. Content took a massive hit with moderated posts, despite all doing their best to approve asap. At this point I expect threat of ban should be sufficient, and while I wouldn't know, I am led to believe all major book spoilers have come top pass in the TV show now.

Incase people forget, during season 3 the thread was overrun with book readers and/or purposeful spoilers. Now that we are going to be passing? the book's content those fears should be moot.

exactly "shoes on the other foot" though as a bookreader my self i dont think the show could ever spoil the books for me but I would like to know how both sides generally feel, there are some book spoilers left, they are few and far between and none major anymore

Re: Modding Game of Thrones Season 6 discussion thread

FTR the approved-post format came about from one guy posting stuff like "TYRION KILLS TYWIN" a few times.

The fact is you will never be able to stop that kind of stuff without the approved-post format, but the approved-post format is very non-real-time-commenting friendly.

At this point of the internet, if you don't want to be spoiled you should just stay off the internet completely. There are sooooo many places to be spoiled(for example, I was spoiled once in a comments section of an article that wasn't even GoT related) you really can't avoid it without practicing avoidance altogether.

Just my opinion.

OP is perfect imo. Keep it in this subforum, but get rid of the bod approval. At that point, just be swift with the ban hammer, but i dont think it will ever get like it was in S3/S4.

don't see any need for post approval or segregation of book readers any more, pretty much agree with 27o that anyone who still wants a safe space from spoilers at this point should prob just not open a web browser for a few months.

Just allow everyone and ban for spoilers. I believe that I have all of the major spoilers left thanks to a drunk friend, so it doesn't really matter to me at this point, but there are for sure spoilers left that people won't want to know.

I feel like if you turn off post approval, should just do it quietly without telling anyone so that people who want to spoil may still be deterred since they think posts still need approvals

Anything you are thinking of is a diverged story line or confirmed never happening

last question than do we move the book thread in here too ? Id rather it be in one spot.

Re: Modding Game of Thrones Season 6 discussion thread

The posting restriction will be removed shortly , I would like some additional mods in here though during the season . id still like our normal spoilers rules to apply and action to be swifter.
2 more should do it for the season
Volunteers welcome but you better be in good standing in the threads and with myself and 27

So it's cool if I post those spoilers, one of which is for sure happening some time next season? There is a much bigger one that as of 30 seconds ago hasn't been confirmed never happening.

Re: Modding Game of Thrones Season 6 discussion thread

There is no reason for book readers to mix with non book readers. Book readers still have a wealth of more information to draw from. Yes the basic plot lines are caught up but the book readers have way more ability to predict twists and things to come. Put the two together and book readers will be "spoiling" even when analyzing completely new information.

Re: Modding Game of Thrones Season 6 discussion thread

One time this jerk spoiled Joffrey's death in a random NBA thread on 2+2.

I think a return to the pre approved post state is the best plan. One thread for bookreaders, another for non-bookreaders, harsh modding.

Even though I am on 2p2 all day I somehow managed to not get spoiled about that or the Red Wedding here.
