Viserion (the night kings dragon) will be the last alive after they burn everything up ... we don't need no dang walls nor castles.

I mean, it’s definitely less likely than not, but you don’t see an ending where the palace intrigue is exactly what leads to the Night King winning? It would certainly fit with some of the themes of the show.

Re: Game of Thrones TV Thread - ***NO BOOKREADERS***

I went back and rewatched Season 7 recently. Parts of it are excellent, but the bit where Jon falls into the water, pulls himself out and is rescued by Benjen, who immediately dies after giving Jon his horse etc. is just ridiculously stupid. I still love the show, but itís difficult to imagine Martin writing this scene or signing off on it.

Arya fighting Brienne was solid. And I like the development of the Hound as a character.

0.00% chance. It would be comically anticlimactic. It could be an appropriate ending to a short story, not to 8 seasons of television.

I could see NK winning if they turned the show over to Paul Thomas Anderson or something because THE FROGS FALL ON EVERYONE or some deep-level artsy nonsense that gives film school upperclassmen something to debate. This is D&D though. They came to chew gum and service fans.

yeah this entire subplot was utter nonsense, let's just gather a load of popular characters together and manufacture some peril for them. It's this sort of thing that makes me suspect we're just getting the utterly dull Khaleesi and Jon save the world from Ice Zombies ending. PROVE ME WRONG WRITERS.

would be pretty surprised if GRRM wasn't saving some big twists for the end
(that are almost certainly hiding in plain sight like R+L=J)

like how do you do this show the way that they have only to run with the most boring cliche ending possible? unless he's just like:
tv show = fan service ****
books = real ending

Re: Game of Thrones TV Thread - ***NO BOOKREADERS***

There's supposed to be one more "holy ****" moment:

Quote:
George RR Martin has yet to finish The Winds of Winter, but he shared story details with the Game of Thrones writers - including three huge "holy ****" moments.

TV fans may remember Stannis Baratheon sacrificing his daughter Shireen last season. That was the first one.

The second moment aired just last week, with Hodor's origin (hold the door!) finally shown to be as a result of Bran's time-travelling and warging.

As for the final "holy ****", well, you might have to wait a long time to find out.

"[It's] from the very end," showrunner David Benioff said.
As the first two show, though, it probably won't be some huge twist in the main story.

Re: Game of Thrones TV Thread - ***NO BOOKREADERS***

I rewatched season seven too. The timelines were so ridiculous. A raven flies to the dragonglass island and a dragon flies back before the lake finishes freezing. John yelling "fallback" to his seven men on the rock isle when completely surrounded. And were they using dragonglass or their normal weapons, like the blacksmiths hammer?

Bronn saving Jami and they safely sit on the other end of the pond when they come up for air. Where did the dragon go?

So many unforced errors in the season. I hope the Starks in the crypts all become whitewalkers.

In-world, that is supposed to be roughly the distance from New York City to the Mexican border, each way.

This isn't only nerd nitpicking, the distances are supposed to have narrative consequences. For instance, the reason the South (King's Landing, etc) are so complacent about the White Walkers and dismissive of the stories of the Night's Watch is in part because that **** is all a continent away.

Re: Game of Thrones TV Thread - ***NO BOOKREADERS***

Here is my prediction for posterity:

Dany and Jon successfully defeat the Night King, but at enormous cost. All dragons are dead or presumed dead, and much of Dany's military strength is destroyed. Tyrion dies, probably in some sort of situation where he sacrifices himself explicitly or implicitly to save Dany and Jon.

At some point during the war with the Night King, Jamie kills Cersei to prevent her from doing something that puts all of Westeros at risk. (This part seems almost certain.) He thus becomes the only person in living memory to have killed two regents for the benefit of the realm.

The high-born in Westeros become increasingly wary of Dany because she is an outsider and because they see hints of the mad king in her (e.g., her dubious decision to roast half the Lannister army at the end of last season). They reluctantly rally around Sansa as an alternative. As we head into the last few episodes, Sansa is in a stronger position militarily than Dany/Jon and Dany's main claim to the throne is that she saved Westeros, she sacrificed her children (her dragons) and lots of blah, blah, blah about the blood of old Valyria.

Someone betrays Dany and Jon, leading to them being captured by Sansa. Sansa demands that they bend the knee. Dany predictably refuses. Sansa tells Jon that she has always considered him a brother and that now is the time to stand with his family. Jon refuses, not because he is a Targaryen, but rather because he sincerely believes that Dany would be the best ruler.

Sansa orders Arya to kill them both, which she does. (This will be reminiscent of Arya's execution of Littlefinger.) Sansa assumes the Iron Throne as a ruler in the style of Tywin or Stannis. We are left with the impression that Arya will continue to do the necessary wet work for House Stark.

Alternate ending: Jon is imprisoned rather than killed, and we learn that Varys secretly has been hiding a dragon's egg that he acquired from who knows where.

No matter what, I feel strongly that Jon will not be on the Iron Throne at the end. Idealism is NEVER rewarded on this show.

Re: Game of Thrones TV Thread - ***NO BOOKREADERS***

Final predictions:

- Dany dies, perhaps in childbirth. Also dead: Cersei, Jaime, Arya, Jorah, Theon, Melisandre, Varys, Euron. Living: Jon, Sansa, Bran, Sam. Not sure about Tyrion.
- Jaime kills Cersei.
- The power of the Iron Throne is broken. I don't know if this will be reversion to seven kingdoms or some sort of rudimentary democracy, or perhaps both.

That's about all I got really.

I would be really surprised if Arya dies, how do you think that's going to play out, or why do you think she will die?

Re: Game of Thrones TV Thread - ***NO BOOKREADERS***

Well I have very different ideas in the books (I'm into the Alt-Shift-X endorsed theory where she dies but wargs into Nymeria and lives on like that). I don't think that will happen in the show, but Arya's story is still immersed in blood and death and there have been a few hints she will die. I don't know what a satisfying happy ending for Arya looks like, and I think the showrunners will decide that we still need some tragedy among the Starks. If she doesn't die, what is that tragedy? Bran? Sansa? Jon? All of those seem less likely deaths to me than Arya.

The only other possibility is that she sails west, into the Sunset Sea, to see what is west of Westeros. Otherwise, how does her story end? Romance with Gendry? Vomit. Obviously she's not going to rule anywhere. She's not going to have some prosaic job. Her dying makes the most narrative sense to me.

Edit: Like just in general tragic terms as well, OK, I have Dany dying, but is that really going to be it among the good major characters? If the B-plot tragedy, if I can put it like that, isn't Arya, then who is it?

Re: Game of Thrones TV Thread - ***NO BOOKREADERS***

hard to predict bc i think the show & books will end very differently, which obv means the show would get lots of dumb tv ending stuff, and the better stuff will be saved for the books

- Dany ... dies? yeah sure why not, maybe gives birth to a girl before biting it
- Jon dies? yeah sure why not
- dragons all die
- Cersei doesn't die, gives birth to a male dwarf
- Jamie + Brienne the beauty, shippy shippy
- Sansa & Tyrion survive, and rule somewhere together, maybe King's Landing
- the Hound sacrifices himself to save Sansa
- show ends with some decentralized democracy type things where each kingdom has more power & independence
- Arya probably kills a WW with the dagger, probably kills the Mountain, probably wears the face of a well-known character at some point (e.g. Mel or Varys), probably hooks up with Gendry, maybe dies though yeah, could see "Arya" dying but surviving as someone else with a face, or as Nymeria
- Nymeria returns at some point, probably saves Arya from grave danger or something, or maybe warg'd by her or Bran
- Theon/Yara? idk, who cares ... i guess 1 of them lives, let's go with Yara
- Bran is prob the NK or some ****
- Qyburn will obv come up with something to help vs the WWs, maybe a collab with Sam/Bran?
- related^: the NK gets "healed" with the green dragonglass, the way Benjen was
- do we see Meera or their swamp castle in s8? or Howland Reed finally?
- Daario probably comes over to help fight after he hears about Euron picking up the Golden Company
- what known characters will we see as zombies? Benjen? Hodor? Summer? can't remember who all croaked up north but weren't burned

worried about some dumb plot where Tyrion double-crosses Dany with Cersei (strongly hinted at in the last ep), unless maybe it's a double double-cross with Jamie/Sansa playing Cersei as well

which characters are the most likely to live/die?
e.g. was watching an ep the other day and thought what possible reason would there be for say Pod to die, Pod likely makes some badass kills in s8
- Bronn should prob live too, same with Davos, maybe Tormund too (to rule somewhere up north), Missy prob lives, Gilly & lil Sam prob live
- Melisandre, Varys, Euron, Beric, Hound, Golden Company guy, etc all seem like great bets to die, maybe Jorah too, Grey Worm could die

what'd i forget? probably a lot
