Cross post

Running an Australian Calcutta Pool

Calcutta's are explained here

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Calcutta_auction

Setting these as base prices

50%: Slush fund paid to anyone who dies in equal shares for season 8. Viserion and Night King have to be "destroyed" to die. Anyone who is alive and they become a white walker/wight are considered dead/have died. If someone like Tormund is to die, they have to either die on TV, or be strongly alluded to. If the are ignored, they considered to be already dead, and win no money.

10%: Whoever kills Cersei. If Cersei lives, she gets the 10% of the total pool

10%: Whoever rules the Iron Throne at the end of the show. Prize can be split

10%: First character of the 41 to die

10%: Last character of the 41 to die

5%: First person to speak in season 8

5%: Last person to speak in season 8

If I have made a major **** up, let me know (Il take on the minimums if no bids, otherwise everyone else is bidable, starting at bottom up, and I can bid if I want.

The auction is among my IRL friends who watch the show.

I was just asking advice for if I have messed the pricing on anyone in this threads opinion, as I am on the hook for the min-cost of each character.

Likewise, if given those characters and payouts, which would people buy/not want to buy at those prices.

Oh. Well that's opinion, really. I think Daenerys is a near cert to die and Jon Snow a near cert to survive. Cersei and Jaime are both absolute locks to die. Arya like 80-90% to die. Bran and (especially) Tyrion are both too expensive.

I guess since you have to buy the minimums, you're mostly interested in overpriced stuff. Bran, Sansa and Tyrion are the most overpriced by far. Samwell Tarly also too expensive, he has virtually zero death equity, has some chance to win first or last to speak.

lolwut? If one of those two die, they both die. And they both have to die so that Sansa can take the Iron Throne (as Jon's heir).

If you split hairs then maybe Jon survives in Ghost.

Re: Game of Thrones TV Thread - ***NO BOOKREADERS***

Ive been binge watching the whole series this last week with my old lady who hasn't seen the show yet.

Can someone explain to me how Stannis and all his men and their horses were North of the wall while John was out on diplomacy to meet Mance Rayder? I can't seem to rationalize it in any way.

Also, I was blasted af on an edible during Joffreys wedding episode, and holy **** it was the most intense hour of television Ice ever experienced. Just knowing what was coming at the end had my heart pounding whenever I thought about it!

Lyanna isn't worth 50 cents. I don't even remember who Yohn Royce is.

Agree on both parts, however, people are looking for a cheap sweat before the expensive characters get rolled out.

Yohn Royce is this guy

Who IMO is an absolute lock to die, and plausibly first, by charging out of Winterfell to take on the Night King head on.

it doesn't really make any sense, no, iirc

i think they were coming back after getting that loan in Braavos to take over Westeros?
so i guess their plan was to conquer North of the Wall and use Wildlings to increase their army? (so they probably sailed around The Wall)
and then take out the Boltons and reinstall the Starks to get The North on board?
and so on to The Eyrie & Riverlands?

idk, basically just seemed like dum deus ex machina to get Jon out of his suicide mission, Stannis in place to die, etc

I didn't know there was such a thing as sailing around the wall. If so, at least its a possibility.

I had never seen a map! Cool to look at. I guess I always subconsciously thought of the North beyond the wall in a flat Earth kind of way. Lol me.

Storm's End? That seems totally unfamiliar to me.

Storm's End has never appeared in the show. Only Great House castle which hasn't. I think it's only even mentioned once or twice. It's sort of irrelevant because it's the seat of House Baratheon and all the Baratheons are always either doing other things or dead.

House Baratheon never made sense to me. You only ever see 3 players in that house early on and then it's as if that family and kingdom never existed other then the 3 people. You'd think they'd still be in the story if they still existed and were part of the royalty. Huge hole in the story imo. Wouldn't there be heirs from extended family and have claims to a big part of Westoros let alone the Iron throne?

Re: Game of Thrones TV Thread - ***NO BOOKREADERS***

The other lords in the Stormlands are probably going to give fealty directly to the Iron Throne after the main Baratheon line gets wiped out. They're not going to follow some random cousin. The Crown has the power to give Storm's End to someone else, which is probably what would happen as the Crown does not want one of the kingdoms being ruled by a fatally weak House.

The bigger question is why Cersei was able to just grab the Throne after Tommen's death. We know that Tommen was not really a Baratheon, but most of Westeros still thinks he was. Cersei taking up the Crown is a transition between Houses Baratheon and Lannister, and Cersei is widely hated in King's Landing, had to do the walk of shame, etc etc.

The show doesn't really do details like this, which is fair enough. We also have no idea who currently holds Storm's End.
