Re: Game of Thrones TV Thread - ***NO BOOKREADERS***

I think everyone knew exactly what 27 intended and meant, even though it is linguistically different when parsed carefully.

Loosen your ties, guys. No need to make any possible spoiler pages long fight.
The show is on hiatus for probably over a year. It's not like this is taking away from any show discussion. But maybe a separate thread is in order if people want to keep discussing this.

Yes, I believe that when parsed carefully, the set of "TV viewers only" does not include the set of TV viewers that have also read the books. Do you disagree? I don't know why you omitted the word "only" which is one of the most important and relevant words.

TV viewers only means only people who watch the tv show are allowed to post, book readers who watch the show are tv viewers => allowed.

But it's obvious that that's not what the OP meant

I'm just teasing 27 for being imprecise because he hates my dogs.

I believe that is one interpretation. Which would be that "this thread is only for people who watch the TV show," as opposed to people who do not watch the TV show (regardless of book reading status). That would be a silly interpretation though.

Another equally legitimate interpretation would be "this thread is for people who [watch the TV show only]," as opposed to people who both watch the TV show and read the books. This is the obviously intended interpretation that almost all would agree is correct.

Since both interpretations are legitimate, and the sentence can be parsed both ways, it should be interpreted/parsed in context, to mean what everybody knows it means. It may be a clumsy sentence, but it is not wrong imo.

And I'm just teasing you because I think you parsed the sentence incorrectly, while trying to correct/tease 27.

I could be wrong though, which is why I asked for clarification. And yes, this is a silly derail, but there's nothing else going on in here right now.

Is it possible that Tyrion knows Jon's true identity? Maybe from Cersei? That would explain his weird look at the end.

How would Cersei know? AFAIK only Sam and Bran know. I think his look is just concern about the political ramifications of them hooking up.

Yes, I'm surprised to see that there are even "theories" about this.

FWIW I have never read a book, and dont post in the book readers thread.

I dont want to post or read that thread because ACTUAL REAL SPOILERS, but am interested in back story/lore, again if anyone can provide an actual argument for why we cant discuss that here beyond count the threads, I am all ears.
Ya I this point I go to another forum for GOT stuff cuz they talk about everything but what could spoil the show and we are well past that now. This thread is super limited and is way less entertaining when you can learn all the backstory of the characters, lands, ect. There's just so much to explore in this universe that just talking about the show is like only going on 1/10 of the rides in an amusement park.

At the end of s1 e3 when aria meets syrio for the first time. Ned watches from the doorway and his expression changes from joy, of seeing how much she's enjoying it, to concern as there are edited sounds of steel clashing and audio of battle then it goes to credits

Knowing what we know now is he getting actual premonitions, seems like more than cinematic foreshadowing

Also in this episode re old naan being right. Her first line to bran was, 'don't listen to him, all crows are liars' after the Raven intros the scene by perching in the window and cawing

Re: Game of Thrones TV Thread - ***NO BOOKREADERS***

I go to a weekly pub quiz and they have a side game for a free jug of beer called "Name These Ten...". It's 10 pictures of some category of thing they put up on the TV screens in rapid succession and you have to name them. Typical categories are like "brands of icecream" (with the labels partly obscured) or "cartoon characters from the 80s". This week, however, it was "Name these ten Game of Thrones locations". The free beer was delicious.

You had to name the locations as named in the opening credits, so I did have to rely on my team to know that Dorne is just labelled "Dorne" in the credits, nothing more specific than that. Which is a bit lol, it'd be like labelling Winterfell "The North".

I didn't take that as premonitions but rather Ned has seen reality. He was smiling seeing her excitement and nativity of how she was romanticizing the idea of becoming a sword fighter, as he probably did once, but watching her train he started spacing out and was having sorta PTSD-like flash backs to the horrors of actual battle. That's actually been a theme of GoT early season, especially the first season. The young generation who hasn't seen war often having a romanticized notion of it being this glorious thing vs. people who have actually fought and know the truth.

Robert Baratheon: They never tell you how they all **** themselves. They don't put that part in the songs.

and then there's Jon's idea of what the wall and Knight's Watch is, etc.

Re: Game of Thrones TV Thread - ***NO BOOKREADERS***

Your first part is a better articulated version for how I saw it, and for how it's likely intended. Was wondering if this was a Stark bloodline thing or maybe we just never got the backstory for Ned knowing/seeing ****

Most of the early episodes intros and endings were direct ties to the supernatural elements of the story

I don't know to feel better or worse that Jori was getting played by that blonde just before Jamie's dagger to the eyeball

I think in the opening credit sequences where Dorne was shown they identified Sunspear?
