Both weapons work on wights, the obsidian is only needed for walkers, and they never fought any walkers except for the one from the initial scouting party. He probably switched because the hammer's weight made it slow and he needed something quicker.

White Walkers are the leader guys with the blue eyes, they appear to still have consciousness and intelligence.

Wights are just the undead foot soliders.

Wights appear to be killable by conventional weapons assuming they are destroyed sufficiently.

White Walkers appear to only be killable via valeryan steel or dragon glass.

Re: Game of Thrones TV Thread - ***NO BOOKREADERS***

If they wanted Arya to not appear completely insane they really should have had Sansa do something way more dubious than some old letter she wrote many years ago under duress.

That's what's rubbing me wrong about their supposed friction, it's totally baseless and forced.

This lack of drawn out chatty scenes that would span entire episodes is all due to the series ending in X amount of episodes. Everything will be condensed as a result and a lot of stuff they would normally include won't be present. Things like where the **** did Ghost go? He hasn't appeared at all this season even though writers wanted to include him simply due to costs.

Though given the monster ratings so far for Season 7 I wouldn't be surprised if every episode of Season 8 is like 2 hours long with massive budgets.

Given the amount of fan service we're seeing this season, Cleganebowl is like 100% happening, right?

Re: Game of Thrones TV Thread - ***NO BOOKREADERS***

To everyone bothered by how lame and weird Arya is behaving:

To me it seems like she is trolling Sansa to manipulate LF. She immediately didn't trust LF and started spying on him. Then LF realizes this and sets her up to create fake sister drama so he can get more Sansa points. Arya realizes he's doing this and lets him think it's working. This would explain her suddenly acting like a dumb Stark again instead of being a clever super assasin. She's acting.

If it turns out that she's just being crazy, I will be as disappointed as everyone else. But I'm giving the writers and actors the benefit of the doubt for now, as they rarely disappoint for long.

we had this exact 7 stages of grief with Arya last season when she's leaving braavos. "She cant be so stupid that she'd buy a boat ticket in public and then get stabbed by an old lady on a bridge out in the open like a dumbass! it must be jaqen wearing aryas mask!" nope just bad writing.

the bar is low for this one.

Agree w/IG. My take is she was calculated in her approach and conversation with Sansa. The fact she didn't tell her the information came from LF (after being asked) led me to this conclusion.

This is a great point. If Arya was legit mad about the letter why wouldn't she say that she stole it from Sansa's skeevy new friend Littlefinger? An upset sister wouldn't miss an opportunity to say "and your friends suck too."

So, she must be hiding that fact on purpose, and if she's hiding it on purpose she must know LF lead her to it.

Going through the trouble of writing dialogue to point something out that doesn't make sense on the surface can't be accidental. That would be bad writing pretending to be good writing just to make the bad writing even worse. That isn't a maneuver GoT writers/GRRM would pull.

Given the underlying "girl power" theme of GOT, I think this is probably right

Re: Game of Thrones TV Thread - ***NO BOOKREADERS***

taking out Peter just makes Arya a complete super hero, at that point what can't Arya do

shes the best fighter-> beats 6 foot 2 brienne 1vs1 whos fought all her life
shes the best healer-> gets multiple stab wounds in the gut and runs around like nothing happened
shes the best schemer-> takes out the most cunning person west of the narrow sea

What has Littlefinger really done wrong? Hidden a note that makes Sansa look bad? He can easily spin that as trying to protect her.

If he were trying to protect her he would've burned it.

I kind of don't want to bring this up again and derail the thread but do you people really think Bran is warging into Jon's sword or some ****?

Jon comes up from under water, and a drop of water falls onto the sword. That's it.

watched some older season wight stuff, you are probably right for what they are going for right now but in the older seasons wights cant' be killed with anything but fire/obsidian and they were stronger 1vs1 than regular people.

I'm guessing blue fire.

Re: Game of Thrones TV Thread - ***NO BOOKREADERS***

Long digression about succession to the throne and how Daenerys can't have kids must be a setup for something. I'm thinking that Daenerys either sacrifices herself at the end with the understanding that Jon Snow will be the king or she gives up her claim to the throne for the same reason.

Either way, Jon Snow is on the Iron Throne at the end of the show, which pretty much sucks.

Re: Game of Thrones TV Thread - ***NO BOOKREADERS***

It's really disappointing for a show that has built its reputation on intelligently subverting audience's expectations to sink into cliche and contrivance. At its worst GoT has been slow or farcical. But not even Jamie and Bronn's trip to Dorne was as stupid as this northern excursion. Can't say that I was all that entertained, because it's hard to enjoy an episode in which people do very stupid things, and every big moment is contrived and predictable. This ep was further evidence that the White Walkers are a mistake.

at what point did the book content end and they had to start making up their own content? Was the Battle of the Bastards in the book?
