i think this is a result of a show formula being forced to deal with stronger and stronger plot armor. too many characters have had tons invested in them where if they die it's a waste, but when they have plot armor and can't die it also feels like a waste.
at a certain point you do have to end the show, and lots of traditional "good endings" sorta run counter to the reason we all liked this show in the first place, namely that nobody is safe and anything can happen. well, now we're getting into a place where for the umpteenth time jon snow is totally f*cked and deux ex benjen saves him. ZZZZ.
I don't think that's ever been entirely true. Lots of big characters have played their part and died, but now it's like the main cast have been revealed and arrived at the end, Dany, Jon, Jamie, Cersei, Tyrion, Arya, Sansa, Bran plus some fan favs Bronn, Hound, Berric etc. Still think Cersei might go down this year. Nobody is safe will apply to the finale when a glorious death will come for some of them.
Like everyone else I had literally zero concern that Jon would die when he fell in the water.
I think we're all feeling a twang of disappointment this year that epic stuff like Azor Ahai, Jon's heritage reveal to Jon/Dany doesn't seem like it will go down. Arya isn't going off to kill anyone with her mad skillz, just being an angry brat in Winterfell.
81 minute finale though. Big meeting in Kings Landing, some sort of conclusion in Winterfell I'm guessing, Invasion of the dead? (the final scene of the episode)? but what else will go down in that 81 minutes??
