Re: Game of Thrones TV Thread - ***NO BOOKREADERS***

I was surprised they tipped off the Dany/Jon love angle so quickly. It went from like 5 mph to 95 mph in one episode.

Whoa, totally did not notice that. And does not seem like an optical illusion at all.

Yep. They have an audience of us willing to accept dragons, undead, resurrection, and endless other magical ****, yet they have somehow managed to get us all saying lol gtfo that's not believable.

Another point in favor of it not being an optical illusion is that they specifically called attention to the head on the handle in the episode itself.

Clayton,

He did make a point to talk about mormont senior replacing the bear with a wolf - maybe it's something more special than just a handle?

That gif is nothing similar. In the scene, the eyes change at the same angle with the same clarity as Jon comes out of the water from the other side -- nothing could be causing an illusion, it was intentional.

All that being said I'm not sure it even means anything other than something extra for those who happen to notice.

Re: Game of Thrones TV Thread - ***NO BOOKREADERS***

the writing was just so meh. so many deux ex machina asspulls. tormund really needed to die, i hate to say it, but that save by hound was groan enducing.

i think this is a result of a show formula being forced to deal with stronger and stronger plot armor. too many characters have had tons invested in them where if they die it's a waste, but when they have plot armor and can't die it also feels like a waste.

at a certain point you do have to end the show, and lots of traditional "good endings" sorta run counter to the reason we all liked this show in the first place, namely that nobody is safe and anything can happen. well, now we're getting into a place where for the umpteenth time jon snow is totally f*cked and deux ex benjen saves him. ZZZZ.

Jon Snow was drained of blood and stone cold dead for like 6 hours. Plus Wim Hoff is his breathing coach.

What wast he point of that? What did it accomplish plot wise? Nothing. The story is in exactly the same place as the scenario of him flying back with them initially.

That whole sequence, which added nothing to the plot at all, existed solely to give the audience a cheap ~60 seconds of false drama, at the expensive on needing a dozen completely ridiculous things to happen to sort itself out.
It did allow Dany to see where he had the stab wound over his heart that she has been wondering about

Thanks ChrisV for posting in the other thread (I can't help but reading all of them after an episode), this certainly looks intentional to me (and seemed even more clear on my TV, will need to watch again):

I had this exact dialogue between you and Cotton with myself internally after seeing the ep. But there are a million ways this could have been accomplished. Jon taking a wound during the fight would be dramatic and could have the same result.

If you aren't pulling for the white walkers to win I think you are doing it wrong.

Show has kinda been pretty clownish throughout if were being honest. Granted, this is the laziest I can remember the plot getting, but there have been so many holes.

I just will be happy for it to end at this point and I can re-watch the whole thing to decide if it's actually any good.

I really don't understand why Arya is so pissed at Sansa.

Re: Game of Thrones TV Thread - ***NO BOOKREADERS***

Seriously, Arya came across completely ridiculous.

Robb and Cat read that letter and were instantly like "Look at this horrible note they forced Sansa to write!" Nothing about that letter is damning at all and Arya comes across as petty and unreasonable, not sure they were going for that. And they really thought it was worthy of having her imply violence (or downright threaten) Sansa's life over it? Jeez.

They've utterly butchered the Arya storyline since her bourne ultimatum race through braavos

its not gonna happen but if little finger somehow truimphs over her and kills her next episode, that would be excellent

So does the zombie dragon still breath fire or does it now breath frost breath?

Ice breath makes no real sense outside of "magic changed it" but I think since that'd be a lot cooler (pun intended) that's the way they'll go.

I would think it has to be frost but not sure.

Can someone explain what Bran worging into a sword would do exactly? I get it somehow would help Jon escape from the water but how?

I don't think it would help Jon, just that Bran saw it. I doubt it will be relevant but we shall see.

Also, why didn't they all ride out on horses to begin with? Just decided to walk to make it even more dramatic than needs be?

I also like how Jon's wounds are still basically open as opposed to being scars at this point.

The mountains stupidity throwing a rock should have gotten the entire group killed, instead they are miraculously saved. Even giving they where there for ~12-24 hours (they stayed overnight after the one guy got back to send ravens), can a raven really get somewhere and dragons back in that time? I guess. If budget is really that big of concern for HBO they should just call it the Tesla Hyperloop to pay for the CGI.

Those aren't complaints, just nit-picking and I'm still loving the show. I guess we will need to wait to see how it ends before deciding if these episodes end up being worth it or if they end up being Dexter level bad or not.

I don't think this season has been bad or anything, but parts of felt rushed and slightly over the top in terms of drama.

I can deal with a dramatic last second rescue. Having 3 of them in like 15 minutes is 'tarded.

Agreed, and no reason this could not have been a 12 episode season the way they are going about things.

The opening scene for instance, I could enjoy a lot of that chatter.

Re: Game of Thrones TV Thread - ***NO BOOKREADERS***

I've always watched this show with a ton of appreciation for all of what it's doing and how its doing it, while at the same time having absolutely no attachment to any of it. I don't really care too much about any particular thing aside from just wanting to be entertained and seeing the cool and ballsy **** they'd do from time to time. So in theory, I should love that it's moving so fast. But even I'm often going "whaaaaaaaa" at a lot of this season.
