Re: Game of Thrones TV Thread - ***NO BOOKREADERS***

Top 5 GOAT characters are clearly (not in any order):

olenna
cersei
bronn
the hound

there are only 4 listed because 5 don't exist. Lots of other decent characters, but none that are the same elite company as those 4. An argument can be made for tywin lannister, that's about it.

GOAT secondary characters:

yara greyjoy
tormund giantsbane
davos seaworth
varys

There are lots of solid characters like tyrion, theon, etc. But those are the GOAT ones.

WOAT characters:

sand snakes
khaleesi
jorah mormont
missandei
sansa stark
bran stark
samwell tarly
renly baratheon

most overrated characters:

littlefinger
stannis baratheon
jamie lannister

Re: Game of Thrones TV Thread - ***NO BOOKREADERS***

K I got pretty thorough here. Clearly I'm more of a fan than a hater

Got nothing to do with acting BTW, that's an entirely separate list.

GOAT characters
Robert Baratheon
Cersei Lannister
Theon Greyjoy
Joffrey Baratheon
Da Hound
Davos Seaworth
Stannis the Mannis
Melisandre
Bronn
Varys
Tywin Lannister
Tormund Giantsbane
Roose Bolton
Osha
Rodrik Cassel (I know he had no development and barely any lines but I loved that dude)
Olenna Tyrell
Shireen Baratheon
Jojen Reed
Oberyn Martell (somehow skipped over him, post below )
Karl fookin Tanner

Good but not GOAT
Ned Stark
Jorah Mormont
Tyrion Lannister
Margaery Tyrell
Ygritte
Gendry
Jaqen H'ghar (would be top if not for the poorly written Bravos arc)
Alliser Thorne
Yara Greyjoy
Meera Reed
Blackfish (would also be top if not for extremely lame non-death scene)

Bad... just bad
Danyres
Fatwell
Gilly
Shae
Euron

Oberyn probably would have made my secondaries GOAT list if he had received more screen time

I think Cersei is a great character but think Lena is often pretty bad

Czar: rodrik and jory were two of my favorite minor characters. Even though they didn't much they still embodied all the qualities of the North so well. Plus those chops!

Sand snakes and Dany are the only ones I would say are "bad" characters. Maybe Sansa.

Re: Game of Thrones TV Thread - ***NO BOOKREADERS***

Oh Gilly. Already forgot her, she's just so super awful that one wants to forget her altogether. Probably only character whose performances I really would like to skip. Even sand snakes were not THAT bad, bad acting but Gilly just is so super useless for whole show. Sansa has also risen from level awful to just bad, but best is that her scenes are usually rather short nowadays.

So many characters / actors that one would need 10+ different top lists. RIP Olenna Tyrell, that was prob my favorite side character. Also little surprised that no-one has brought up vice-Joffrey, Ramsay wasn't bad villain (though preferred Joff). LF was my favorite (as a character still is) around seasons 1-4, but 5-7 have been disappointing.

Starks are so lame and honest house that everyone would want to live IRL but hate watching. All bad or at least mixed characters like Tywin, The Red Viper, Joff or Jaime get all the plus votes. Arya with her darker side is clearly number one character in lame house.

While Sansa was arguably the worst character on the show for like the first 4 seasons, I think she's actually kind of awesome now, and the actress has done a good job recently.

I also don't really get the extreme Olenna love. The old lady that puts everyone in their place schtick was cute for a few episodes but grew boring for me. Actress was very good, though and her death scene was excellent

Has there been basically no nudity other than Missandei/Grey Worm and the brief Cersei body double? Seems like a drastic departure from earlier seasons where gratuitous nudity occurred in almost every episode.

Surely they could spare a few minutes for a Yuron orgy scene.

So it's a near mortal lock at this point that Stark / Targaryen / Lannisters join hands and fight the zombies together, thus ending the eternal conflict of men in a united effort to defend humanity from zombiepocalypse, right?

This makes me so terribly sad; lazy and predictable, which has kinda been the new theme after surpassing source material. Hope I'm wrong as significant plot twists is one of the main reasons this show has stayed fresh and awesome season after season.

UNRELATED SIDE: Want Unsullied armor for $700? A House Stark fountain pen for $350? The Hound's awesome helmet for $300?

If there's one takeaway from watching GoT again from S1E1 it's that Little Finger, if anything, is UNDERrated as a character / actor. Just A+ fantastic stuff in every scene and written phenomenally.

Yeah. One of my favorite characters. It's a huge credit to the show that he's so well realized, his most memorable scenes ("Chaos is a ladder" and "I'm not going to fight them. I'm going to **** them. That's what I know. That's what I am") are both show originals, but since they ran out of plot for him, he's just looked like a creepy old man who is hanging around hoping to get in Sansa's pants.

Would be very surprised if this is how it goes down. Frankly I think it's more likely that Cersei tells them to **** off and they ruin themselves fighting the White Walkers, whereupon Cersei is left ruling Westeros. To be clear, I don't think that's likely either, but I really, really don't think the end of the story is going to be an earnest morality tale about the virtues of Working Together.

Re: Game of Thrones TV Thread - ***NO BOOKREADERS***

Top 10 memorable lines from the series IMHO:

1. You know nothing, Jon Snow.
2. Winter is coming.
3. The Lannisters always pay their debts.
4. Valar morghulis
5. Any man who must say I am the king is no true king.
6. What do we say to the god of death? "Not today!"
7. When you play the game of thrones, you win or you die. There is no middle ground.
8. Chaos is a ladder.
9. A Dothraki wedding without at least three deaths is considered a dull affair.
10. The man who passes the sentence should swing the sword.

The king of the ashes line could also be on the list, it's been revisited several times this season, in regards to what Dany should or shouldn't do.

The origin of course Varys saying of LF something to the effect of, "He's let the entire world burn if he could be king of the ashes"
