I tend to agree and I think this is owing to the fact they outpaced the source material. GRRM is a terrific writer and, while many of the scribes working on the show probably are as well, as soon as a show (or movie) gets too much under the control of the studio execs it gets cliched up in a hurry. GoT is a pretty big property these days, they aren't going to leave it in the hands of *gasp* writers.

I seem to recall hearing somewhere that GRRM wrote the whole character of Tyrion with Peter Dinklage in mind to play him. That he saw him in a play or something and that was what gave him the inspiration. Could be wrong.
Anyways it's hard to imagine seeing a better lineup of British acting talent than they have in GoT. Sure some of the kids could've been better, but there are some pretty powerful stage actors in there.
