Here's my attempt at the Bran/three eyed raven situation.

Like the three eyed raven before him, having that type of knowledge/experience is just completely overwhelming so he can't even act like a normal person. He's just in perma austist mode where he's calculating and piecing together the few things he can't see.

I don't think he wants to be like that, but he's powerless to control it. Maybe over time he'll learn to deal with it and get his personality back, but I wouldn't count on it.

Heh heh... uhhh, Bevis, he said "Queen's Lay" heh heh heh

I'm generally awful at watching this show and catching all the references and I even caught the chaos is a ladder thing.

Turning back to the show, when Jon and Dany was in the cave and Jon said there was something else he wanted to show Dany. Did anyone else thought he was going to disrobe?

I thought it was going to be his chalk set and the next set of cave drawings he was working on.

You apparently have absolutely no idea what "literally" means.

building from that scene, there was one thing i didn't really put together- that girl said that bran died in hodor's final scene, did she mean that figuratively or literally since bran was warged into hodor's mind at the time?

Top five? LOL, I'm going to have to come up with another list of twenty much more significant utterances. Yes, it was significant -- but it's nowhere near top five.

Also, nobody actually follows the rule in all circumstances because it results in some truly horrendous sounding sentences. Anyone think any of these sound right?

"Netflix costs fewer than 10 dollars a month!"
"Usain Bolt can run 100 metres in fewer than 10 seconds"
"Well, that's one fewer thing to worry about!"
lol gotta agree with this. the last thing i am is a grammar nit so i totally didnt get all the marvelling at the less/fewer line the first time around. everybody's different tho, people like what they like i guess

my feeling is that anyone who has made more than two posts about understanding bran on the first listen or any of the tangents that have come out of it is a bad poster and should feel bad

This thread is currently garbage

+1.

I was wondering what could possibly follow the invigorating Ed Sheeran and crossbow discussions in back to back weeks. 2+2 GOT threads never disappoints.

Jaime: "the things we do for love"

Ned: "he who passes the sentence should swing the sword"

Arya: "valar morghulis"

Olenna from last episode telling Jaime she killed Joffrey

Aemon Targaryen explaining to Jon what he gave up in joining the night's watch

Mirri Maz Dur's curse on Dany after Dany tries to bring Khal Drogo back to life

Oberyn's speech to Tyrion that you contend makes him a top-five character

Tyrion's dialog with Lisa Arryn where he talks his way into a trial by duel

Sandor: "I'm not going to kill you, little bird"

Jaime to Brienne in the hot tub explaining why he killed the mad king

Catelyn to Jaime when he is caged at Riverrun

Those are entirely off the top of my head after a scotch too many this evening. And again, it's definitely a noteworthy Littlefinger speech, but it's not anywhere near a series top five.

"You know nothing, Jon Snow."

Howard I don't think you understand the main theme of the show.

Hint, it is not a love story.

A couple more off the top of my head:

Tyrion: Watching your bastard son die gave me more relief than a thousand lying whores

Tyrion: I would gladly give my life to watch you all swallow it.

Jaquen: A Girl is no one

Tywin: You're going to kill your father in the privy?

Sandsnake: You want a good girl but you need a bad pussy.

Pretty sure I understand the overall themes. Note that Littlefinger says something similar to Tywin in the conversation where Arya is cupbearer and Tywin calls him out for how obvious that statement is.

Again: yes, it's both memorable and important. But it's not plausibly top five.

Oberyn: "AAAAEEEEEEEEEE!!!"
08-07-2017 , 11:51 PM
Euron: Does she like it gentle or rough? A finger in the bum.

howard you have a lot of non-specific convos or monologues listed there. the dubiousness of some of those choices aside, i'm kinda talking about the most impactful one-liners that are easily reciteable- not just in a character development sense, but also as it relates to the rest of the plot and life in those times in general.

"i'm not going to kill you, little bird"

...really? really??? that one might be the most eggregious choice
08-08-2017 , 12:27 AM
It's the first line of Clegane's redemption arc.

Point taken on the specifics. I suspect some of those do have specific lines that are memorable. I remembered the baelish/varys conversation, but the specific line "chaos is a ladder" didn't stand out particularly from that overall conversation; so IMO it is similar to many in my list.

Also: Cersei to Robert: was it ever possible for us? was there ever a time for us, ever a moment? Robert: no.
