It's been hundreds of years since last dragons, no reason to assume they had crossbows then.

Also no reason to build dragon killing weapons when there weren't dragons
Calling it a crossbow is sort of an understatement too. It's more of a piercing cannon. Unless you were specifically fighting a dragons such a weapon would be pretty useless in conventional warfare.

It's also safe to assume they are going to be building crossbows like that by the hundreds if not thousands.

It seems like most in the North accept Jon's stories about the White Walkers, but beyond that there don't seem many who believe. Cersei almost certainly doesn't (or at least doesn't really seem to care about that threat).

Hard to say what Dany believes - Tyrion did say that he believed in them as Jeor Mormont was an honorable man, but not sure if he's been able to convince Dany. We should find out next week when she meets with Jon.

The most educated people in the world (Tirion, the maesters) dismissed all the stories about fantastic things north of the wall as urban legends and fairy tales.

The people in the north are far more likely to believe as they are close enough to still occasionally see and hear things.

Humans fighting amongst themselves even when faced with an outside threat of annihilation has always been common trope in sci fi / fantasy.

Pretty much every single alien invasion movie, or even the Lord of the Rings, etc.

The Targs were in power for 300 yrs, and halfway thru their reign the last of the dragons died. So they (dragons) were not around Westeros for thousands of years.

Euron is deliciously evil! I didn't think much of Ramsay Bolton, but Euron Greyjoy is just the right kind of mad for me – the fun kind. To take on the Sand Snakes like that as well as besting Yara so easily – that is one badass right there!

Theon fleeing like that made perfect sense, and I'm glad they respected what he went through enough to be consistent with it. Definitely the kind of thing such a character would do.

And lastly, we come to Sansa, staying true to her poor form from the last episode. Once again opening her mouth when it wasn't needed at all. Jon shutting her up by giving her leadership was exactly the kind of thing I expected him to do – Jon FTW!

This has bugged me since S1E1

would be super awesome if arya killed her after arriving at winterfell due to her being a selfish, complete raging ***** her whole life. not to mention being complicit in the mess that caused her to lose nymeria

and the butcher boy's death

yea thats right. i kinda laughed to myself considering it the other night, but it seems more and more plausible the more i think about it

I feel like Tyrion was a let down this episode.

How ever he felt about Cersei he didn't hate Myrcella and as it was him who had shipped her off to Dorne I was expecting some kind of revenge on Ellia Sand when he got the opportunity. Not just a “she was innocent, killing her was wrong!".

I know there was an element of them needing Dorne for their plan but still he seemed to let her off really lightly and she actually gave him some **** before Daenerys had to step in and save him.

Until this episode I had completely forgotten that those 2 would have beef over the Oberyn/Myrcella events. It would've been much better to have been played up more.

Also I don't remember Theon saying anything about Jon when Tyrion was mentioning he's a good man etc. Seems odd since he lived with him for 7 (?) years.

It seems likely that at least one of Arya, Little Finger, Arya will die when John's gone

Is Theon present for that discussion? I don't remember him being there and I'm not sure he's a member of her inner counsel.

He was standing in the background, it didn't look like he was expected to speak though

Theon is the most shook person on the show. Pretty sure he would lose a fight straight up to Sansa.

I don't think he's really even allowed to speak.

You guys would have more success getting bookreaders to stay in the bookreader thread if you made it more accessible. I had no idea it existed until people started bitching about me posting ITT. Like there's literally a GAME OF THRONES SUBFORUM that appears at the top of OOT and then you are shocked and surprised when that is the first port of call for people wanting to discuss GoT on 2+2. This:

Quote:
This forum is for the discussion of the GoT TV show ONLY!
Reads obviously like "no bookreaders" to people who already know the deal, but when I first saw it next to OOTV, I assumed it just meant "and not other TV shows". I was kind of surprised when there was only one thread when I went in there, and it said "no bookreaders" but I was like "yeah fine, they don't want spoilers, but the show is past the books now anyway and I'll just spoiler tag stuff like prophecies not in the show".

Like when there is a Game of Thrones subforum, why would I expect to find a thread discussing GoT that is not in that subforum? It makes no sense. I never go in OOTV because I watch virtually no TV.

Mostly, this, though something like that could be useful in conventional warfare too. I was originally thinking a ballista, but it looked a little more like this: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scorpio_(weapon)

If I was a dragon I'd attack at night

Uhhhh, what specifically about this weapon strikes you as being more like a "piercing cannon" than a big ass cross bow...which, you know, it literally is.

It's a cross bow scaled up in size. There's no explosives, no gun powder, it's just a bigger arrow coming out of a bigger slinger.

I've been hyped for like 4 years to see what devious plot Team Lannister would hatch to contest dragons. The best the sinister maester who made Evil Mountain could come up with is One Big Crossbow. It's disappointing and you know it.

Ed Shereen singing anti-dragon spells woulda been only a little worse.

Serious question, has there been a normal crossbow used in GoT? IRL the "big ass cross bow" pre-dates the crossbow AFAIK.

Tyrion killed Tywin with a crossbow.
