There's no doubt that Tyrion is guilty of a double murder, although I admit I now can't remember why Tyrion went to his father's bed-chamber. This all happened when Jaime let Tyrion out of his cell and Tyrion was escaping King's Landing, but I'm fuzzy on the detail. I suppose it could lead to some irresistible impulse or temporary insanity kind of thing -- although in KL, the High Septon would simply put everyone involved to death.
The whole arc would have been much better if Shae had been more attractive.
