To quote Argo, I think this is the "best bad idea" as far as eliminating spoilers, and I appreciate the extra effort that goes into doing it, but seeing as we're coming up on ep.9 I hope we'll have enough mod presence and activity in the hours after the telecast to get some insta-approved posts so the thread can move at an appropriate pace.

And ftr if mods are actually reading for content, any post I make that is made moot by cross-posted earlier ones (like the one about Jamie's sword) you can just delete. We don't need a bunch of different posts correcting or clarifying one plot point that wouldn't be made if we could see the others imo.

I get the impression I've been the only mod approving posts most of the past week. I've woken up several times only to see no posts approved in the previous 8+ hours.

27offsuit has been around a little. But, I haven't noticed anybody else maintaining the two threads in the forum.

This could be a problem on Sunday night. I won't be around when the episode airs or for several hours afterwards.

Add a couple EU mods (if such thing exists). You could also add known posters to a group of posters that don't need their posts to be validated by mods imo

I don't think that's possible. It's an all or nothing permission set for the thread.

Thought you guys were going to add more mods?

At least now I can get some work done on Monday mornings.

Seems like they really need to let more people approve posts. Gonna really hurt the traffic in that thread if it is this slow on a Sunday night after that episode.

I'm around late night pretty much every day and would be happy to do it. Omar would obviously be a good pick to help as well and seems to be around a bunch.

Omar for mod
06-09-2014 , 11:49 AM
We'll definitely be adding some more mods to this forum before the next episode.

If you're interested, say so in this thread.

Just be aware that if you become a post approver you'll be opening yourself up to being potentially spoiled. It's the reason I declined. TIA to those who step up though.

Losing the very little faith I had left in humanity.

Some dude creating Twitter account only to jump in GoT related conversations to drop huge spoilers. Just got owned. I only follow people that are not ******ed and wouldn't do that, but can't avoid people to search for GoT convos and jump in them..

According to the name of his account, it's pretty safe to say it's his only purpose on Twitter.

Sigh

Good news is that in a few years there won't be any books to spoil from.
06-16-2014 , 01:14 AM
(Insert spoiler from book reader here)

Damn, it's gonna be a long 10 months of dodging society...

I played started a game on my Chess with Friends app a couple days ago against a random opponent. His user name was "OberynDies"...

This should probably be revisited for the end of the season. As the show will be mostly caught up there will be no more big spoilers possible.

We should probably still keep book talk separate though. Pages and pages of "well in teh book this happened instead" or "xyz never did this" would get rather tiring.
06-02-2015 , 05:46 AM
Yeah I would like to see it go back to real time posts and ban people who post spoilers
06-02-2015 , 06:10 AM
No post approval, ruined the thread way more than the alternative, and no need for it any more anyway.

No book readers (why is Kirby consistently posting in this forum?)

easy.

I don't mind the current system, the issue is more that despite having 9 mods to validate posts, we seem to only get them by small batches every 12h or so. That's from my European time zone perspective anyway. But either way, even though I'm well aware this isn't their day job, I still suspect some slacking

What happens when people open up the thread between when the spoiler is posted and a mod attends to it? That could sometimes be several hours. This is what happened last year.

I realize it's diverged from the books quite a bit this season, but I also know that many of the plotlines are still arriving at the same place. We can still be spoiled on things like major deaths to come, etc. That 1 ******* last season ruined Tyrion killing Tywin for me. What's to prevent that from happening again?

We don't know any more big spoilers.

We have some guesses about where things go based on foreshadowing and based on what the show cuts/keeps.

But nothing major.
