Is approved posts the way to go? Is approved posts the way to go?

Can you make it so posters have to be approved to post instead?
06-02-2014 , 01:11 AM
yes. but you'll have to work that out with the mods when they get back.
06-02-2014 , 01:16 AM
Could it be both pre-approved posters and non-approved posters whose individual posts require approval? I think mixing the two would be the best for keeping things streamlined for regs without deterring any new posters

Also, don't let people make threads in this forum, or limit it.

what happened?
06-02-2014 , 02:57 AM
Ha. I hadn't read the thread all week. Was it thesaltydog that spoiled it? Man that guy was a huge douche so I'm not surprised. What a piece of ****.

approved posts is AWESOME. good idea mods. Also, not that I want to know the spoilers, but did this person that lagtastic is referencing spoil something from this season, or far in advance?
06-02-2014 , 06:04 AM
Thankfully I was late to the thread today so everything had been deleted so I didn't get spoiled.

Approval (Whether for every post or just every user) def seems like the best way to go.

That said, given a bookreader is the one who started this thread I hope the plan is not to allow them to post again, just with approval.

That would be a step backwards.

As a general rule, I think its a good idea not to talk about what may or may not have been spoiled for some people.

Let's just move on with the new system.

There were huge spoilers a day or 2 ago to anyone that didnt know and actually was the only time I got spoiled which is running pretty good cuz Im on the net all the time. Glad to see we are getting more ways to prevent that from happening.

The mods are definitely doing a great job on this forum as I know spoilers are posted a ton and I havnt seen a 1 till this week. Good job mods!!

Having to have every post approved makes it hard to have conversations. And you can't edit posts.

The alternative is to potentially be spoiled. I'll take a little inconvenience over that any day. Just make sure you quote the post you're responding to so your post doesn't follow the wrong one.
06-02-2014 , 11:10 AM
Actually, if your post gets approved and put into the thread within 30 mins of you making it, you can still edit it. Maybe the mods should make sure 30 mins go by to lock out the edit feature, otherwise it defeats the purpose of needing approval if it can be changed after the fact.

Something else I noticed is that the thread may not indicate a new post (i.e. thread title is bolded with the arrow) once an unread post gets approved. This is probably because there were unapproved posts ITT when you last clicked on it, so they got marked as read even though they were still invicible. Just an FYI, you may have to scroll back a little next time you open the thread.

I think some regular posters should be pre-approved. I'm guessing bookreaders can help pointing out who those are. Right now I'm worried I will spoil myself by having a post denied and when my posts get approved I'm like "yup, that theory must be wrong too"
06-02-2014 , 02:05 PM
wow super idea love it
06-02-2014 , 03:14 PM
This is absurd.

It's a ****ing TV show, not a need-to-know classified dossier.

The mods can correct me if I'm wrong, but I think the reason for this post-approval is to avoid dicks like thesaltydog from creating a billion accounts and spamming spoilers. They get deleted quickly, but people still see them.

I don't think the mods are going to deny non-obvious spoiler posts, since 27o isn't even a bookreader himself (or Lattimer?).

Spoilers hidden as speculation have always been a tricky area to deal with because of exactly what you stated.

Well, the fact that it's almost guaranteed that you can "click to the last unread post" every time, I think it's worth it. I don't participate in the thread cause it moves so damn fast, but that's a damn nice result.

Can someone explain why gobbo is still posting? It seems like almost every time he posts people ask him to leave and he keeps coming up anyway.
06-02-2014 , 05:13 PM
This is awesome, though I am no longer allowed to post due to some very vague reasons I can finally start safely lurking again.
