Is approved posts the way to go? Is approved posts the way to go?

Why was I not allowed to post all season and why was I removed from approved posters?

Ban people very liberally, don't allow posting by new accounts? Sure someone could still spoil things but that could happen literally anywhere on the Internet.

Approved posters would also be good but it seems that's been suggested before and shot down, maybe for technical reasons.

I think going back to an unapproved thread in the OOTV forum would be worth a try. The thread was only started because one guy was posting spoilers and I'd guess he's probably not around any more.

I think there were a few instances of people posting major spoilers. There are always immature people who think it's funny to ruin other people's enjoyment for no reason. This thread was started because there was one that was very persistent for a few days due to being pissed that he was outted as a book read and banned. Basically, without a mod on full time, you were going to be spoiled if you opened the thread.

That said, assuming that there are no more major spoilers from the books, I think we should go back to an open thread with the rule no mentioning the books. If someone spoils a minor detail, it'll still suck, but not that big of a deal.

+1 for going back to no approved posts, preferably for the last 2 episodes of the season.

Telling people that "there are no more major spoilers" is a major spoiler.

I was talking about after the season ends, when the show will be caught up.

If you're so much of a nit you don't even want to know when the show catches up to the books... well, I don't think there is much sympathy for you.

Regardless, given the response it looks like most everyone is in favor of non-approved posting after episode 10 airs.

I was aware of some of the differences between the show and book this season, but just today I read a long list of them. I had no idea how much it had diverged. Even I've come around and would be ok with it opening back up.

I'm in favor of going back to the old way after this season ends.

It definitely seems like a good idea seeing as it's a bunch of work to approve posts and the show is speeding past the books like a dragster past an old granny walking down the sidewalk.

Yeah I'll vote for going back to normal after this season, though I think this method was an overall success. Would be nice to get quick approvals following the next two episodes, though.

count me in the "appreciate the mods' efforts in protecting us from spoilers, but from next season onwards the approved posting won't be necessary as there isn't enough spoiler material out there any more" camp

One of the moderators accidentally made a post in the TV thread last night (it was meant for the book thread) so he deleted it shortly after. There were 4 posts awaiting approval at that time and he didn't bother attending to them. wtf

lol, it was actually meant for a different thread entirely, and I didn't approve because I was on my phone which doesn't make it obvious there are posts to approve. I have been trying to approve more posts the last week though.

Fair enough. I obviously made a false assumption on my part. This whole thing is likely going away anyway.

After a year of doing this, I just made my first(?) screwup.

A minor spoiler was in the thread and had several responses.

I approved the spoiler post because I thought it was just an opinion of a show watcher. I did some further research and realized the poster was a bookreader.

He was possibly just confused about book content and show content. Of course, that's a big reason why bookreaders shouldn't be posting in the moderated thread.

And the thread title couldn't be clearer that bookreaders aren't allowed. No excuses for him if he comes back and claims ignorance.

The book readers shouldn't be posting. Ever. Going to be super super simple for the s6 thread. Just don't post in our thread.

I'm near the end of book 3 and way behind the show. What do you propose I do? Granted I haven't read it besides pooping in like 4-5 months.

Do you mean people who have read all the books or people like me stuck in limbo.
06-14-2015 , 12:10 PM
So you just banned every bookreader from the whole 2p2 forums for 10 days cause they posted accepted/moderated posts in the thread.

beyond ridiculous
06-14-2015 , 12:54 PM
and the one who "spoiled" the CGI dragons size for next season isnt even a ****ing bookreader

well ****ing done
06-14-2015 , 06:29 PM
Meh I think stuff from official interviews about the show should probably be fair game. Like the dragons thing is something I heard in two other places which weren't spoiler friendly

So that posters can better understand Reshi's commnets above, here's some information.

In the past week, there's been a careful examination of the moderated thread to see if any bookreaders have been posting in it and getting their posts approved.

We found six confirmed bookreaders posting in moderated forum.

Two bookreader posters were temp-baned four days for posting in the moderated thread.

Two bookreader posters were temp-banned ten days for posting repeatedly in the moderated thread.

Two bookreader posters were permanently banned for posting or attempting to post book information in the moderated thread.

For currently unknown reasons, three of these bookreader posters started making these posts on May 19th. Two others followed shortly afterwards.
06-14-2015 , 06:57 PM
there was a consensus that bookreaders could post after the posts started getting approved

maybe it wasnt official but outright banning from every forums for a long time is pretty messed up.

(not talking about those permabanned)
