Personally I have a policy of not lending money to people in the gambling community.

And then I lent $160 to a guy who wanted to play a 6pm tourney at FW. I saw him all the time. I had just won a big tourney. I thought it was no big deal. Never saw him again. I have seen his brother a few times since. His brother immediately knew what the problem was when I talked to him about it. The brother made it clear that he wasn't going to front me the money. Which told me that I was never going to see the $160.

My policy about lending money now is I will lend money to a friend only if I am OK with never seeing the money again. Unless I have already lent money to that friend and have not yet been paid back.

As for your twitter acquaintance, it is highly likely that he will be moving on to another twitter handle. It is the MO that is important here.

I have been scammed a few times by strangers on the street for like $20. One person was carrying an empty gas can and convinced me that it was his only chance to get home.

Another was crying hysterically which I misread as real. After giving them $20 they stopped crying immediately and moved on (probably to the next person).

Each time it happens I remind myself to stop getting scammed. And then ten years later when my guard is down, it happens again.

The latest was a street guy who said he was starving. I gave him the $20 but actually believed him. I'm guessing he spent most of it on booze or drugs.

So, I've got a few issues and questions about your two threads.

This one could use some details. Like, any details. How did this happen? How much money? How long has it been?

Right, this is my first issue with your original thread. Basically, you're saying you're only here to pressure someone to pay back, and informing others is irrelevant. Generally, that isn't looked upon too fondly around here - hopefully you can understand why that is.

Secondly, you post his info, then remove it, then say you want to "give couple days to see if he pays back", then post it again ~10 hours later. Probably should come up with a clear plan of action before posting. Like, I wonder if even know you've thought things through completely - hopefully your plan doesn't hinge on being able to delete this if payment us made.

Finally, your second 180 degree turn didn't require a new thread. And this isn't really the place for it; I'll move your thread where it belongs now. And I'll delete the other one.
