Nothing against OP but I'm will be furious if this thread doesn't get locked. I posted the exact same thing months ago (granted it was for a smaller amount of $) and had the thread deleted. Mods need to lock this to show any consistency.

Good luck, OP.

It was a when, not an if, that we would start seeing these types of threads once the FT remissions happened.

40k baht, not $40k USD. They were in Thailand. Right now 40k baht = $1256.

I thought we'd see many many posts about people getting bought out on FTP and then stiffing the buyer. I expect most of them to be paying zero though.

Glad you got something OP and I hope Mr. Parker comes through on the rest.

The reason being that although he did collect on his 16000 he had already sold it on for 8500 to (I assume) a foreign resident so his taxes are just on the 8500? If so, what is to stop US poker players selling on their winnings at a discount to players in no gambling tax jurisdictions such as the UK - for example by making up staking agreements?

As the profanity filter doesn't seem to include Slovak words I am also going with the hajzel theory mentioned by a previous poster.

Drzim ti palce Tomas.

The same thing that should stop every taxpayer in the country from making stuff up and reporting it on their tax return. It's against the law and you will have to pay the tax and penalties and possibly go to prison if caught.

HONKYDonky was a high stakes reg yeah.

Looks like HONKYDonky on Bodog was 2+2 user blainestar (not certain but based on two minutes of looking at the Bodog regulars thread it seems like that's the case):

I thought there would be more much such incidents as well.

For once, less scamming than normal. At least there's that.

i am shocked, just shocked, that in a situation where you get into a deal that involves thousands of dollars without any apparent written contract and "I did not knew him that well" has ended up like this

Seems like an odd case. To me he is clearly scamming based on the tone of his messages. But then he did send $11,920 when the opportunity to send you nothing was there.

I just loved the part where he was already planning his defence saying his family were prepared to testify he was not of a healthy state of mind at the time the deal was made.

Just chalk this one to experience and be glad you at least got something.

Sorry, what I kind of mean is that if Zachary just tells the IRS "I know I got 16000 but because of a deal with no contract I shipped it to some Slovak guy in return for 8500" are they not going to cause a whole load of problems? - because I would if I was running a tax office so as not to be exploitable.

You poker donks totally amaze me. I read thread after thread on here about poker players scamming other poker players. Some have been on here for many years. How do you not collect money up front when agreeing to ship online money to another poker donk? If you are the one receiving funds, how do you not wait until funds are in the account to give the other poker donk cash? This is mind boggling to me. Explain.

Really strange he sent $12k and turned down the offer of an interest free loan for a year for the other $4k.

Well the fact that this was an impossibility may have something to do with it, just maybe.

If you bothered to read the OP you would see that he was buying a full tilt balance, that money was not available at the time of the trade that is why he paid 8500 with the hopes of receiving 16,000. And to your inevitable comment of "he really expected to get 16k in exchange for 8.5k?". Thousands of people have successfully sold their balances, and the OP still made a profit of 3500 minus whatever the tax situation is.

I didn't realise the power of 'non-negotiable'.

All 2+2ers owe me $1000. Non-negotiable.

Let me get this straight. You are saying that the guy bought the full tilt money at a discount, but at the time of the deal, there was no way for the other player to ship him the online money.( I assume because full tilt was frozen) So the guy is paying real cash for online funds that may or may not be able to be shipped in the future. If this is the case, I still question the logic of the guy with real cash. Was he just gambling that the full tilt funds would eventually be good?
