odd that you expect everyone to assign good motive to your friend, but Thomas is a monster. Is it possible in your book that Thomas is mistaken about what went on and over reacted? Nope? He's a monster while your friend should be given every consideration, even though it is pretty clear that he jerked Thomas around at the very least. Yep, the moral high ground is yours.
Thomas's response is so classic. Agree that getting his money stolen by Zach cost him the $4000.

Again kartinken seems to ignore anything other than insulting the guy who got robbed. At least out of this thread we have a couple of line items to put in future staking/lending arrangements:

1. If the person who borrows money wishes to receive their due, they must "work hard enough" to get it back.
2. A mental illness clause can be invoked at any time which releases the stakee/borrower from fulfilling their end of the agreement.
3. Tax issues are the primarily responsibility of the person giving the money, because why not?

I'm starting to worry that kartinken may even be worse than Zach. Then again, maybe he is Zach which would make sense.

At least Zach hid because imo he knows he screwed up. Kartinken acting like this isn't his fault is really troublesome.

Fair criticism, but in my defense, Tomas's move was a clear attack on someone in a bad situation, where it's unclear what Zach's motivations are.

Zach's decision to cut off communication, play the victim card, and explain how he can't be held legally responsible (due to mental illness, jurisdiction, cost of attorney, etc) make it pretty clear what his motivations are.
He received 16,000 in money that he didn't expect and doesn't want to part with all of it.

Maybe there is some chance that he is using the money for some tax issue, and maybe there is some chance that he is down on his luck and really needs the money, but, regardless of the reasons why, he is stealing it.

Your attempt to make Tomas feel bad by talking about Zach's situation and then calling him a monster speaks to your character.

Best analogy I can think of is having a single event to complete some big sports betting parlay, hedging that game with a buddy, and then paying that buddy less than agreed because you have to pay taxes on the money you won from the original parlay.

So lol anyone defending ZP. Depending on OP's tax situation he could be liable for this 16k payment, or w/e he gets, or w/e his net on the agreement was. So you cant just randomly throw your tax burden onto dealswhen it's time to settle. If your tax burden was ever gonna be an issue you could have figured out what that liability would have been and made the deal for 6k for 13.5k or w/e. i couldnt work out why this scam/theivery annoyed me so much, given they're relatively common on 2p2, but then i read ken's posts this morning and the question was removed.

In email exchange donkey said he would send proof that paid taxes of 4k never sent that proof. I just read the email exchange for the first time the agreement was ironclad with no stipulations for taxes op is a complete scammer. Honkey first wanted 2k for taxes then friends told him 4k lolol omg. Hopefully people will think 2x before having any types of dealings with karntiken.
