I really love the idea of making the website, but is it legal (in the US)?

I wanted to do something similar a while ago but found out that in Brazil (and some other countries) it's explicitly illegal to do that (to defame someone, regardless of the reason)

Not to mention that you could (late) reg, unreg and reg again doubling your chances

What did happen to CornelFiji? Was his debt to Admo? Did Admo collect? In the old days, if somebody burned a stakehorse or owed everybody the word would spead. Still a scammer could always find somebody to stake him. I think TwoPlusTwo is a great way to warn the poker community of the scams and deadbests.

Defamation typically involves making a false statement. What has been done here is mostly just a listing of facts.

Doubt anyone will see any money back. But at the same time, it seems scammers follow poker lines of thought - they look to seperate fish from thier money.

I have already laid some of the groundwork for the site, as of last night.

Before I put too much work into it (honestly its not going to be a lot of work in total, and I want to learn more about complex web design anyway) I am going to check out the legal ramifications.

I'm pretty sure a disclaimer is enough.

And I wil obv 100% be including a dispute/ resolution option, because the end goal is obviously to identify scammers, but to also make them pay back.

the other scam mentioned ITT Eric Conti had scammed a backer quoted AS A REFERENCE in his thread, and had repeated recorded criminal convictions easily discovered via the web after he made off with 50k - including none other than Vanessa Selbst's $ - in his 2+2 thread.

i've randomly followed quite a few scam threads/threads that have turned into a scam through the years and many of the sig's are still live.

For example IAMHIV did EXACTLY THE SAME THING rainey did and IS STILL a POOH BAH and logged on today lol. totally absurd. btw ive absolutely nothing to do with him or anyone here, just one of many random examples i've come across, such as this one.

so whilst these threads and admo's website may be pretty 'entertaining', and may well increase the chances of pay back (although i suspect they're far more about a desire to inflict e-pain) perhaps you guys and 2+2 should really focus your energies on the BIGGER PICTURE - this site's facilitation of these things happening over and over again. it really is ridiculous how these things are practically given pretty much a free reign by this site, who then don't take any rememdial action - aside from the odd thread title change - when the inevitable fk ups continue to happen (fk ups that often seem to be largely driven by a totally false image of poker and consumerist society in general pushed on us by companies greedily raking the $ in themselves).

i would have thought that would be a much better use of your time and skills, and if you actually managed to do something about it far less people would get scammed in general, rather than these individual cases, as bad as they are for those involved.

i have no specific suggestions, its just pretty staggering to me that the same thing keeps happening time after time, and the actual system that allows it to remains unchanged. something for people to think about hopefully - but lets face it, we'll just all keep getting screwed over right?
