People have been arrested in Australia for doing similar things on ebay. It's mainly a matter of finding the people, if the people who got scammed can give the police addresses/phone numbers/work places then they will go question/investigate that person.
One of the tv shows from Australia setup a sting on a Nigerian scammer in the UK in a hotel near Scotland Yard, the police got called and he ended up with jail time for things like having a false passport etc..
