OP, all this talk of someone else finishing 29th is irrelevant. They guy owed you $270 whether he could afford it or not.
You messed up twice. Not making sure he paid you before you played and then deleting texts.

Chalk it up to learning. You've learned. If 2 weeks groceries are that important to you, you shouldn't be playing poker anyway.

i wasn't clear apparently..i didn't cash the main event. i busted the main event but failed to get money from a backer beforehand who, we agreed, had 2% of my action. I'm owed some $ but deleted the texts establishing this fact.

Kelly has nothing to do with any of this btw...although the guy who free rolled me claims he had a piece of her

now i know nothing is binding if $ is not paid ahead of time...i guess that is the main point of the thread, i was trying to get info on this sort of general situation

Sometimes people screw up for whatever reason but still make good later on. Why would you block him from your phone? Suppose he is trying to contact you to pay you? Maybe it can be worked out with Minkin paying you the $270 out of his cut.

If you state the full facts in a truthful and neutral manner, giving his username, others can decide whether or not they wish to do business with the guy in the future.

You probably don't have too much chance getting your money if he is a scammer, or at least an opportunist, but he knows he does owe you the money from an honour point of view, and if he decides not to pay you, that is something you should share with your peers, imo.

pretty silly. to be honest, one of the reasons i am not going to give this guy's name is that it might be unfair to him because he might be planning to pay me (eventually) but the bottom line is that i texted him several times and he said he would send the $ via paypal and he didn't, and when i sent him a follow up text the other day i waited 48 hours without him responding before blocking his phone. not that i do anything real productive with my time but i feel i shouldn't have to be checking paypal twice a day so i figured i would just stop communicating with the guy. and i didn't want to be out $270 AND have someone wasting my time

Mike, respectfully, NVG is designed and serves generally to waste time, its value for many readers is as entertainment. (NVG can and often does alert folks to scamming, et cetera, but many readers and many posters are not looking for actionable information as their objective. )

Def makes no sense why you would block/delete texts and then make this thread?? Without even saying who it is, like wtf? Really seems like something is missing or you are handling this in the worst possible way.

But if all what you said is true. Post the persons s/n (or whatever info you have of them), contact said person that got 29th and explain the situation and get the "scammers" personal info if possible. Out them. At the end of the day I hope $270 doesn't make a difference in your life esp if you are playing the ME. Forget about it and let it be a small somewhat cheap life lesson. Not really worth the stress/time trying to hunt down this person imo.

This is dumb because if you won money I'm sure you wouldn't have paid him 2% of your winnings if he didn't pay his share beforehand. I would think that if he never transferred you the money prior to the start of the tournament, the deal was never completed.
